Segmented band joist batts and method of manufacture
Abstract
Insulation is partially divided into segments ( 200 a ), wherein each of the segments ( 200 a ) has an R-value and thickness and has length and width dimensions of, at least somewhat greater than 9.5 inches by at least somewhat greater than 14.5 inches to fill band joist cavities between spaced apart joists ( 106 ); and the batt ( 200 ) is either three segments ( 200 a ) in length or four segments ( 200 a ) in length, or is folded at intervals of the three segments ( 200 a ) in length or four segments in length ( 200 a ), and the batt ( 200 ) has a width of either one segment ( 200 a ) or two segments ( 200 a ), and the segments ( 200 a ) of the same batt ( 200 ) are partially divided from one another and remain in the batt ( 200 ) until separated at the point of use or installation.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A method for making a kit of parts having multiple batts of insulation, comprising:
partially dividing a continuous length of insulation into partially divided segments; cutting the partially divided segments from the continuous length to provide the segmented batt; and combining the segmented batt with further batts of insulation to provide the kit of parts.
2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
separating either three partially divided segments in length or four partially divided segments in length from the continuous length of insulation to form the segmented batt of either three segments in length or four segments in length.
3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
applying a vapor retarder and facing on the segments.
4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
applying a vapor retarder and facing on the continuous length of insulation, prior to partially dividing the continuous length of insulation into segments.
5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
applying a vapor retarder and facing on the continuous length of insulation prior to partially dividing the continuous length of insulation into segments; and partially dividing said facing when partially dividing the continuous length of insulation into segments.
6 . The method of claim 1 wherein, at least one of said batts comprises a segmented batt partially divided to provide at least three partially severed segments connected to one another.
7 . The method of claim 1 , comprising:
each segment having a width and length capable of compression, such that a whole number of one or more of said segments adapt by being compressed and by being oriented to fill a length and width of a band joist cavity between joists, wherein the length of the band joist cavity varies by a width of the joists, and the width of the band joist cavity varies by a center spacing of the joists.
8 . The method of claim 1 , comprising:
cutting the partially divided segments having a vapor retarder against said segments from the continuous length to provide the segmented batt having a vapor retarder against said segments.
9 . The method of claim 1 wherein said at least one of said batts has a width of one segment wide or two segments wide.
10 . The method of claim 1 wherein four of said segments define a length of said at least one of said batts.
11 . The method of claim 1 wherein three of said segments define a length of said at least one of said batts.
12 . The method of claim 1 wherein said at least one batt is about 11 inches wide and four segments long, and each segment is about 12.5 inches long.
13 . The method of claim 1 wherein said at least one batt is about 11 inches wide and three segments long, and each segment is about 16 inches long.
14 . The method of claim 1 wherein said at least one batt is about 16 inches wide and four segments long, and each segment is about 12.5 inches long.
15 . The method of claim 1 wherein said at least one batt is about 12.5 inches wide and three segments long, and each segment is about 16 inches long,
16 . The method of claim 1 wherein said at least one batt is about 25 inches wide and partially divided into two rows of the segments, wherein each of the segments is about 12.5 inches wide and about 16 inches long.
17 . The method of claim 1 wherein said at least one batt is about 23 inches wide, about 23.25 inches wide, about 24 inches wide or about 25 inches wide, and each segment is at about 16 inches long.
18 . The method of claim 1 wherein said at least one batt is partially divided into two rows of segments.
19 . The method of claim 1 wherein said at least one batt is about 23 inches wide, about 23.25 inches wide, about 24 inches wide or about 25 inches wide, and each segment is about 16 inches long.Cited by (0)
