Abstract

Example systems and methods for managing resources in broadband networks are disclosed. An example method for configuring a port of a digital subscriber line access multiplexor (DSLAM), the method including obtaining from a pre-defined configuration for the port a parameter indicating that a customer line termination port card is to be installed in the port, querying the DSLAM to determine a configuration state of the port, configuring the DSLAM with the parameter for the port when the port has not been configured, and reconfiguring the DSLAM with the parameter for the port when the port is incorrectly configured for a network line termination port card.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A method for configuring a port of a digital subscriber line access multiplexor (DSLAM), the method comprising:
 obtaining from a pre-defined configuration for the port a parameter indicating that a customer line termination port card is to be installed in the port; querying the DSLAM to determine a configuration state of the port; configuring the DSLAM with the parameter for the port when the port has not been configured; and reconfiguring the DSLAM with the parameter for the port when the port is incorrectly configured for a network line termination port card. profile.

       2 . A method as defined in claim 1 , wherein the parameter comprises a card profile.

       3 . A method as defined in claim 1 , wherein the parameter comprises a software version.

       4 . A tangible article of manufacture storing machine-readable instructions that, when executed, cause a machine to:
 obtain from a pre-defined configuration for a port of a digital subscriber line access multiplexor (DSLAM) a parameter indicating that a network termination line port card is to be installed in the port, the port to selectively receive a customer line termination port card and the network termination line port card; querying the DSLAM to determine a configuration state of the port; configuring the DSLAM with the parameter for the port when the port has not been configured; and configuring the DSLAM with the parameter for the port when the port is incorrectly configured for the customer line termination port card.

       5 . An article of manufacture as defined in claim 4 , wherein the parameter comprises a card profile.

       6 . An article of manufacture as defined in claim 4 , wherein the parameter comprises a software version.

       7 . A system comprising:
 a digital subscriber line access multiplexor (DSLAM) having a port to selectively receive a customer line termination port card and a network termination line port card; and a port configurer remote from the DSLAM to:
 obtain from a pre-defined configuration for the port a parameter indicating that the customer line termination port card is to be installed in the port;
 query the DSLAM to determine a configuration state of the port;
 configure the DSLAM with the parameter for the port when the port has not been configured; and
 configure the DSLAM with the parameter for the port when the port is incorrectly configured for the network line termination port card.

       8 . A system as defined in claim 7 , further comprising an element management system (EMS), wherein the port configurer is to query the EMS to identify at least of the port or the DSLAM.
