Set of golf clubs

Abstract

A set of golf clubs including golf club heads having a progressive effective sole width through the set. The set includes golf club heads having a club head main body including a hitting face and a face support. A portion of the set includes golf club heads having trailing edge sole chamfers that reduce the overall sole width to the effective sole width.

1 . A set of golf clubs, comprising:
 a plurality of golf club heads, each golf club head comprising a club head main body including a hitting face, and a face support extending from a rear surface of the hitting face; and a muscle back shell coupled to a rear portion of the club head main body and to the face support,   wherein the golf club head defines a sole having a leading edge, a trailing edge, and an overall sole width,   wherein the golf clubs of the set have progressively increasing loft angle and progressively decreasing length from a long club to a short club,   wherein at least a plurality of golf clubs of the set includes a golf club head including a trailing edge chamfer that defines an effective sole width that is less than an overall sole width of the golf club head, and   wherein the golf clubs of the set have progressively decreasing effective sole width from the long club to the short club.   
   
   
       2 . The set of golf clubs of  claim 1 , wherein the trailing edge chamfers have a constant width through the set. 
   
   
       3 . The set of golf clubs of  claim 1 , wherein the trailing edge chamfers have a width that progressively increases through the set from the long club to the short club. 
   
   
       4 . The set of golf clubs of  claim 3 , wherein the trailing edge chamfers range in width between about 0.02 inch and about 0.06 inch. 
   
   
       5 . The set of golf clubs of  claim 1 , wherein the overall sole widths of the golf club heads of the set are between about 0.850 inch and about 0.600 inch. 
   
   
       6 . The set of golf clubs of  claim 5 , wherein the overall sole widths of the golf club heads of the set are between about 0.810 inch and about 0.720 inch. 
   
   
       7 . The set of golf clubs of  claim 5 , wherein the overall sole widths of the golf club heads of the set are between about 0.700 inch and about 0.630 inch. 
   
   
       8 . The set of golf clubs of  claim 1 , wherein the effective sole widths of the golf club heads of the set are between about 0.850 inch and about 0.550 inch. 
   
   
       9 . The set of golf clubs of  claim 8 , wherein the effective sole widths of the golf club heads of the set are between about 0.810 inch and about 0.680 inch. 
   
   
       10 . The set of golf clubs of  claim 8 , wherein the effective sole widths of the golf club heads of the set are between about 0.700 inch and about 0.595 inch. 
   
   
       11 . The set of golf clubs of  claim 1 , wherein the trailing edge chamfers define a chamfer angle that is less than 50°. 
   
   
       12 . The set of golf clubs of  claim 11 , wherein the chamfer angle progressively decreases from the long club to the short club through the set. 
   
   
       13 . A set of golf clubs, comprising:
 a plurality of golf club heads, each comprising a club head main body including a hitting face, and a face support extending from a rear surface of the hitting face; and a muscle back shell coupled to a rear portion of the club head main body and to the face support,   wherein the golf club head defines a sole having a leading edge, a trailing edge, and an overall sole width,   wherein the golf clubs of the set have progressively increasing loft angle and progressively decreasing length from a long club to a short club,   wherein each of the golf clubs of the set includes a golf club head including a trailing edge chamfer that defines an effective sole width that is less than an overall width of the golf club head, and   wherein the trailing edge chamfers have a width that progressively increases through the set.   
   
   
       14 . The set of golf clubs of  claim 13 , wherein the trailing edge chamfers range in width between about 0.02 inch and about 0.06 inch. 
   
   
       15 . The set of golf clubs of  claim 13 , wherein the effective sole widths of the golf club heads of the set are between about 0.810 inch and about 0.680 inch. 
   
   
       16 . The set of golf clubs of  claim 13 , wherein the effective sole widths of the golf club heads of the set are between about 0.700 inch and about 0.595 inch. 
   
   
       17 . A set of golf clubs, comprising:
 a plurality of golf club heads, each comprising a club head main body including a hitting face, and a face support extending from a rear surface of the hitting face; and a muscle back shell coupled to a rear portion of the club head main body and to the face support,   wherein the golf club head defines a sole having a leading edge, a trailing edge, and an overall sole width,   wherein the golf clubs of the set have progressively increasing loft angle and progressively decreasing length from a long club to a short club,   wherein each of the golf clubs of the set includes a golf club head including a trailing edge chamfer that defines an effective sole width that is less than an overall width of the golf club head, and   wherein the chamfer angle progressively decreases from the long club to the short club through the set.   
   
   
       18 . The set of golf clubs of  claim 17 , wherein the trailing edge chamfers range in width between about 0.02 inch and about 0.06 inch. 
   
   
       19 . The set of golf clubs of  claim 17 , wherein the effective sole widths of the golf club heads of the set are between about 0.810 inch and about 0.680 inch. 
   
   
       20 . The set of golf clubs of  claim 17 , wherein the effective sole widths of the golf club heads of the set are between about 0.700 inch and about 0.595 inch.
