Oral composition for enhancing skin properties

Abstract

A stable consumable emulsion, comprising at least 50% water, 0.2 to 3 wt % of an oil comprising at least 12 wt % of docosahexaenoic acid and eicosapentaenoic acid, an antioxidant, a flavouring and at least 0.01 wt % food-grade phospholipid emulsifier is provided which provides noticeable improvements in skin when consumed regularly.

A method of enhancing skin appearance and texture, the method comprising ingesting a stable consumable emulsion, comprising at least 50% water, 0.2 to 5 wt % of an oil comprising at least 12 wt % of docosahexaenoic acid and eicosapentaenoic acid, an antioxidant, a flavouring and at least 0.01 wt % food-grade phospholipids emulsifier, from 0.0005 to 0.1 wt % carotenoid material, and from 0.01 to 0.5 wt % soy isoflavone material. 
   
   
       2 . The method according to  claim 1 , wherein the flavouring comprises fruit and/or vegetable extract. 
   
   
       3 . The method according to  claim 1 , wherein the soy isoflavone is selected from genistein and daidzein. 
   
   
       4 . The method according to  claim 1 , wherein the phospholipids emulsifier is lecithin. 
   
   
       5 . The method according to  claim 1 , which wherein the emulsion has a viscosity of from 2 to 100 centipoise at a shear rate of 1 s −1  and at 25° C. 
   
   
       6 . The method according to  claim 1 , wherein at least one component is naturally sourced, preferably the oil. 
   
   
       7 . The method according to  claim 1 , wherein the emulsion is a beverage packaged in a sealed container, the container having a nitrogen gas headspace.
