Abstract

Embodiments of the invention allow the convenient transmission of URLs or content corresponding to URLs from a WAP/i-mode-enabled mobile device to any other device across a network. In an embodiment, a URL corresponding to content accessed by WAP/i-mode-enabled mobile device is transmitted to an application server. The WAP/i-mode-enabled mobile device further transmits a destination address for the content to the application server. The application server then transmits the URL corresponding to the content to the destination address. The URL can then be used to render the corresponding content at the destination address. In another embodiment, a URL corresponding to content accessed by the WAP/i-mode-enabled mobile device is transmitted to an application server. The WAP/i-mode-enabled mobile device further transmits a destination address for the content to the application server. The application server then fetches the content corresponding to the URL and transmits the content to the destination device.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A method for transmitting information related to content associated with a first URL to a second WAP/i-mode-enabled device, the method comprising:
receiving a command at a server from a first WAP/i-mode-enabled device for transmission of the first URL to the second WAP/i-mode-enabled device; receiving a destination address associated with the second WAP/i-mode-enabled device at the server; caching the content associated with the first URL at the server; generating a second URL associated with the cached content; and transmitting the second URL to the second WAP/i-mode-enabled device.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising modifying the content.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein modifying the content comprises incorporating advertising into the content.

4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining a format of the content based on characteristics of the second WAP/i-mode-enabled device.

5 . The method of claim 4 , further comprising modifying the content based on the format.

6 . The method of claim 4 , wherein determining the format of the content based on the characteristics of the second WAP/i-mode-enabled device comprises determining the characteristics of the second WAP/i-mode-enabled device based on a previous transaction with the second WAP/i-mode-enabled device.

7 . The method of claim 4 , wherein determining the format of the content based on the characteristics of the second WAP/i-mode-enabled device comprises determining the characteristics of the second WAP/i-mode-enabled device by initiating a connection with the second WAP/i-mode-enabled device and determining the characteristics of the second WAP/i-mode-enabled device based on the properties of the connection with the second WAP/i-mode-enabled device based.

8 . A server configured to provide information related to content associated with a first URL to a second WAP/i-mode-enabled device, the server configured to:
receive a command from a first WAP/i-mode-enabled device for transmission of the first URL to the second WAP/i-mode-enabled device; receive a destination address associated with the second WAP/i-mode-enabled device; cache the content associated with the first URL; generate a second URL associated with the cached content; and transmit the second URL to the second WAP/i-mode-enabled device.

9 . The server of claim 8 , wherein the server is further configured to modify the content.

10 . The server of claim 9 , wherein the server configured to modify the content comprises the server configured to incorporate advertising into the content.

11 . The server of claim 8 , wherein the server is further configured to determine a format of the content based on characteristics of the second WAP/i-mode-enabled device.

12 . The server of claim 11 , wherein the server is further configured to modify the content based on the format.

13 . The server of claim 11 , wherein the server configured to determine the format of the content based on the characteristics of the second WAP/i-mode-enabled device comprises the server configured to determine the characteristics of the second WAP/i-mode-enabled device based on a previous transaction with the second WAP/i-mode-enabled device.

14 . The server of claim 11 , wherein the server configured to determine the format of the content based on the characteristics of the second WAP/i-mode-enabled device comprises the server configured to determine the characteristics of the second WAP/i-mode-enabled device by initiating a connection with the second WAP/i-mode-enabled device and determining the characteristics of the second WAP/i-mode-enabled device based on the properties of the connection with the second WAP/i-mode-enabled device based.

15 . A computer-readable storage medium having computer-executable instructions stored thereon for providing information related to content associated with a first URL to a second WAP/i-mode-enabled device, the computer-executable instructions comprising instructions for:
receiving a command from a first WAP/i-mode-enabled device for transmission of the first URL to the second WAP/i-mode-enabled device; receiving a destination address associated with the second WAP/i-mode-enabled device; caching the content associated with the first URL; generating a second URL associated with the cached content; and transmitting the second URL to the second WAP/i-mode-enabled device.

16 . The computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , further comprising instructions for modifying the content.

17 . The computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , further comprising instructions for determining a format of the content based on characteristics of the second WAP/i-mode-enabled device.

18 . The computer-readable storage medium of claim 17 , further comprising instructions for modifying the content based on the format.

19 . The computer-readable storage medium of claim 17 , wherein instructions for determining the format of the content based on the characteristics of the second WAP/i-mode-enabled device comprise instructions for determining the characteristics of the second WAP/i-mode-enabled device based on a previous transaction with the second WAP/i-mode-enabled device.

20 . The computer-readable storage medium of claim 17 , wherein instructions for determining the format of the content based on the characteristics of the second WAP/i-mode-enabled device comprise instructions for determining the characteristics of the second WAP/i-mode-enabled device by initiating a connection with the second WAP/i-mode-enabled device and determining the characteristics of the second WAP/i-mode-enabled device based on the properties of the connection with the second WAP/i-mode-enabled device based.
