Abstract

Described is a system and method for monitoring a mobile computing Arrangement. The arrangement may include a sensor and a processor. The sensor detects first data of an event including a directional orientation and a motion of the arrangement. The processor compares the first data to second data to determine if at least one predetermined procedure is to be executed. The second data may include a predetermined threshold range of changes in the directional orientation and the motion. If the predetermined procedure is to be executed, the processor selects the predetermined procedure which corresponds to the event as a function of the first data. Subsequently, the predetermined procedures is executed.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 .- 44 . (canceled)

         45 . A mobile computing arrangement comprising:
a sensor detecting first data of an event including a motion and directional orientation of the arrangement; and a processor comparing the first data to second data to determine if at least one predetermined procedure is to be executed, the second data including a predetermined threshold value, wherein, if the predetermined procedure is to be executed, the processor stores the first data in a non-volatile memory of the arrangement, wherein a plurality of associated stored first data forms an event history of the arrangement.

46 . The mobile computing arrangement of claim 45 , wherein the predetermined procedure associates additional information with the stored first data, the additional information at least a status of the mobile arrangement, environmental data of the arrangement, or date and time of the event.

47 . The mobile computing arrangement of claim 45 , wherein the predetermined procedure determines a level of abuse of the arrangement.

48 . The mobile computing arrangement of claim 48 , wherein the first data comprises velocity and acceleration values of the event and the second data comprises a minimum threshold value representing a drop event for the arrangement.

49 . The mobile computing arrangement of claim 49 , wherein the predetermined procedure determines a distance the arrangement has traveled based on at least the first data and level of physical impact of the arrangement.

50 . The mobile computing arrangement of claim 45 , wherein the predetermined procedure is executed only after a predetermined number of events occur within a predetermined time period.

51 . The mobile computing arrangement of claim 45 , wherein the event history is at least one of password protected and encrypted.

52 . The mobile computing arrangement of claim 45 , wherein the event history is accessible only to an authorized user of the arrangement.

53 . The mobile computing arrangement of claim 52 , wherein the authorized user is a manufacturer of the arrangement.

54 . The mobile computing arrangement of claim 45 , wherein the event history is usable for comparison with warranty conditions associated with the arrangement.

55 . The mobile computing arrangement of claim 45 , wherein the predetermined procedure terminates a procedure executing on the arrangement, the first data exceeding the second data and the second data representing a predetermined usage threshold value for the arrangement.

56 . A method of determining abuse of a mobile computing arrangement comprising:
detecting first data of an event including a motion and directional orientation of the mobile computing arrangement using a sensor; comparing the first data to second data to determine if at least one predetermined procedure is to be executed, the second data including a predetermined threshold value; and storing a plurality of first data if the predetermined procedure is to be executed, the plurality of first data forming an event history of the arrangement.

57 . The method of claim 56 , further comprising associating additional information associated with the event to the stored first data, the additional information at least a status of the mobile computing arrangement, environmental data of the arrangement, or date and time of the event.

58 . The method of claim 56 , wherein the first data comprises velocity and acceleration values of the event and the second data comprises a minimum threshold value representing a drop event for the arrangement.

59 . The method of claim 58 , comprising determining a distance the arrangement has traveled based on at least the first data and level of physical impact of the arrangement.

60 . The method of claim 56 , comprising providing access to the event history only to an authorized user of the arrangement.

61 . The method of claim 60 , wherein the authorized user is a manufacturer of the arrangement.

62 . The method of claim 56 , further comprising comparing information in the event history to warranty conditions associated with the arrangement.

63 . The method of claim 56 , further comprising terminating a procedure executing on the arrangement, the first data exceeding the second data and the second data representing a predetermined usage threshold value for the arrangement.

         64 . A mobile computing arrangement comprising:
a sensor detecting first data of an event including a motion and directional orientation of the arrangement; and a processor comparing the first data to second data, the second data being at least one threshold value, the processor storing a plurality of first data to an event history of the arrangement based on the comparison, the event history only accessible to an authorized user of the arrangement, wherein the arrangement is at least one of a bar code scanner, a handheld personal digital assistant, a laptop, a digital camera, an optical reader, a data capture device and a mobile communication arrangement.

65 . The mobile computing arrangement of claim 64 , wherein the predetermined procedure includes determining a viewing angle of a display of the arrangement based on the directional orientation of the arrangement.
