Abstract
A headliner and bracket cooperate to define a trim edge around a vehicle sunroof. The bracket may include a lip that wraps around an edge of the headliner and trim associated with the headliner.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A system for providing a trim edge for a roof window in a vehicle having a cabin partially defined by a roof, the system comprising:
a cover stock to provide an aesthetic surface for the roof of the cabin; a substrate to support the cover stock and including an angled section defining an opening for the roof window wherein the substrate includes a first surface, a second surface, and an edge and wherein the cover stock covers the first surface of the angled section of the substrate; and a bracket, attached with the second surface of the substrate, to support the angled section of the substrate wherein the bracket includes a lip that wraps around the edge of the substrate and covers a portion of the cover stock on the first surface of the angled section of the substrate thereby providing a trim edge for the roof window.
2 . The system of claim 1 wherein the lip is flexible.
3 . The system of claim 1 wherein the lip has a surface adjacent the cover stock and spaced away from the cover stock.
4 . The system of claim 1 wherein the lip has a surface adjacent the cover stock and in contact with the cover stock.
5 . The system of claim 1 wherein the bracket and roof are mechanically attached.
6 . The system of claim 5 wherein the bracket and roof are attached with a self mating fastener.
7 . The system of claim 6 wherein the bracket includes a feature to mount the self mating fastener.
8 . The system of claim 5 wherein the bracket and roof are attached with a push clip.
9 . The system of claim 1 wherein the substrate and bracket are bonded together.

16 . A system for providing a trim edge for a roof window in a vehicle having a cabin partially defined by a roof, the system comprising:
a cover stock to provide an aesthetic surface for the roof of the cabin; a substrate to support the cover stock and including an angled portion defining an opening for the roof window wherein the substrate includes first and second surfaces and wherein the cover stock covers the first surface of the angled portion of the substrate; and a bracket, having a finishing edge and attached with the second surface of the substrate, to support the angled portion of the substrate wherein the finishing edge at least partially defines the trim edge for the roof window.
17 . The system of claim 16 wherein the cover stock wraps around the finishing edge of the bracket.
18 . The system of claim 16 wherein the substrate further includes an edge and wherein the finishing edge of the bracket wraps around the edge of the substrate.
19 . The system of claim 18 wherein the finishing edge further covers a portion of the cover stock on the first surface of the angled section of the substrate.
20 . The system of claim 19 wherein the finishing edge comprises a lip.
21 . A system for providing a trim edge for a roof window in a vehicle having a cabin partially defined by a roof, the system comprising:
a cover to provide an aesthetic surface for the roof of the cabin; a headliner to support the cover and including an angled portion defining an opening for the roof window wherein the headliner includes an A-surface, a B-surface, and an edge and wherein the cover covers the A-surface of the angled portion of the headliner; and a reinforcement, attached with the B-surface of the headliner, to support the angled portion of the headliner wherein the reinforcement includes a lip that wraps around the edge of the headliner and covers a portion of the cover on the A-surface of the angled portion of the headliner thereby providing a trim edge for the roof window.
22 . The system of claim 1 wherein the lip is flexible.
23 . The system of claim 1 wherein the lip has a surface adjacent the cover and spaced away from the cover.
24 . The system of claim 1 wherein the lip has a surface adjacent the cover and in contact with the cover.
25 . The system of claim 1 wherein the reinforcement and roof are mechanically attached.
26 . The system of claim 1 wherein the headliner and reinforcement are bonded together.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
