Abstract
A pumping system for blood for a patient includes a sensorless pump having no sensors disposed in the pump itself for moving the blood, a motor and a blood transport port through which blood is received from the patient and is pumped into the patient. The system also includes a controller connected to the pump for controlling the pump so a desired flow rate of blood can be maintained by the pump.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A pumping system for blood for a patient comprising:
a sensorless pump having no sensors disposed in the pump itself for moving the blood, a motor and a blood transport port through which blood is received from the patient and is pumped into the patient; and a controller connected to the pump for controlling the pump so a desired flow rate of blood can be maintained by the pump.
2 . A system as described in claim 1 wherein the pump has back EMF and wherein the controller includes a back EMF sampler which senses the pump speed from the pump's back EMF.
3 . A system as described in claim 2 wherein the pump includes a rotor and the sampler senses the speed of the rotor.
4 . A system as described in claim 3 wherein the controller includes an interrogator which sends an error correction signal corresponding to a difference between a speed control setpoint signal and the sensed pump speed to the pump to maintain the desired flow rate of the pump.
5 . A system as described in claim 4 including a cannulae connected to the port.
6 . A system as described in claim 5 including a coating material covering a junction between inner surfaces of the port and cannulae so that a smooth transition surface is formed so blood can flow smoothly therefrom and collection areas for the blood are eliminated.Cited by (0)
