Abstract
The invention provides a system for installing a roof penetrating structure to a metal roof, the system comprising: a) a rail and closure structure adapted to be supported by adjacent rib elevations of said roof; b) a skylight adapted to be supported on the rail and closure structure; and c) a support member for sealing a cut away portion of the rib structure to divert water away from the rail and closure structure.

exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A system for installing a roof penetrating structure to a metal roof, the system comprising:
a) a rail and closure structure adapted to be supported by adjacent rib elevations of said roof; b) a skylight adapted to be supported on said rail and closure structure; and c) a support member for sealing a cut away portion of the rib structure to divert water away from said rail and closure structure.
2 . The skylight system of claim 1 wherein the support member cooperates with said rail and closure assembly to divert water.
3 . The skylight system of claim 1 wherein said metal roof is selected from the group of roofs comprising a standing seam roof, an architectural standing roof and a snap seam roof.
4 . The skylight system of claim 3 wherein said rib elevation has been cut in only one location.
5 . The skylight system of claim 3 wherein the standing seam roof has trapezoidial rib elevations.
6 . The skylight system of claim 5 wherein the rib elevations are about 24″ to about 30″ on center.
7 . The skylight system of claim 3 wherein said metal roof is selected from the group of roofs comprising an architectural standing roof and a snap seam roof, and wherein said vertical rib elevations are about 12″ to about 18″ on center.
8 . The skylight system of claim 1 wherein said metal roof is an exposed fastener roof system.
9 . The skylight system of claim 8 wherein said rib elevation has been cut in two locations.
10 . The skylight system of claim 8 having a trapezoidial or rectangular rib elevation 8″ to 12″ on center.
11 . The skylight system of claim 8 wherein said exposed fastener roof is of the type having roof panels fastened directly to the roof purlin from the top side of the roof panel.
12 . The skylight system of claim 1 wherein said system comprises two or more adjacent skylights supported end to end.
13 . The skylight system of claim 12 wherein each of said skylights are about 10 feet in length.
14 . The skylight system of claim 1 wherein said rail and closure structure is secured to and moves with said rib elevation.
15 . The skylight system of claim 1 further comprising a ridge flashing configured to fit over said standing rib elevations at the ridge cap.
16 . The skylight system of claim 1 wherein a lower rail and closure structure is configured to match the metal roof panel profile.
17 . The skylight system of claim 16 wherein said rail and closure structure overlays adjacent rib elevations for sealing.
18 . The skylight system of claim 1 wherein said closer is pre-cut to match the roof surface and adjacent rib elevations for sealing.
19 . The skylight system of claim 1 wherein said rail and closure structure is fastened directly to the rib elevations using screws or rivets.
20 . The skylight system of claim 1 further comprising a safety security guard between said roof and said rail and closure structure.
21 . The skylight system of claim 1 wherein said rail and closure structure comprises an extended down leg on the inside of the roof cut away portion.
22 . The skylight system of claim 1 wherein said rail and closure structure forms a water tight seal with said rib elevation when combined with tape mastic and sealant.
23 . The skylight system of claim 1 wherein said rail and closure assembly attaches to the interior of said rib elevation.
24 . The skylight system of claim 1 wherein a rail and closure structure attaches to the anterior of said rib elevation.
25 . The skylight system of claim 1 wherein said cut away portion is made at only one adjacent rib elevation.
26 . The skylight system of claim 1 wherein said cut away portion accommodates drainage along the roof surface.
