Supplement, Process for Making, and Packaging

Abstract

A pet food composition comprising a supplement. The supplement can include a glucose mimetic component. The supplement can include a glucose mimetic component that is a glucose anti-metabolite. The glucose anti-metabolite can be 2-deoxy-D-glucose, 5-thio-D-glucose, 3-O-methylglucose, anhydrosugars including 1,5-anhydro-D-glucitol, 2,5-anhydro-D-glucitol, 2,5-anhydro-D-mannitol, mannoheptulose, and/or avocado extract comprising mannoheptulose.

1 . A pet supplement composition comprising a glucose mimetic component and a fat component. 
   
   
       2 . The supplement composition of  claim 1  and wherein the glucose mimetic component comprises a glucose anti-metabolite. 
   
   
       3 . The supplement composition of  claim 2  and wherein the glucose anti-metabolite is selected from the group consisting of 2-deoxy-D-glucose, 5-thio-D-glucose, 3-O-methylglucose, anhydrosugars including 1,5-anhydro-D-glucitol, 2,5-anhydro-D-glucitol, 2,5-anhydro-D-mannitol, mannoheptulose, and avocado extract comprising mannoheptulose. 
   
   
       4 . The supplement composition of  claim 3  and wherein the glucose anti-metabolite comprises mannoheptulose. 
   
   
       5 . The supplement composition of  claim 4  and wherein avocado extract comprises the mannoheptulose. 
   
   
       6 . The supplement composition of  claim 4  and wherein the fat component comprises a cocoa butter component. 
   
   
       7 . The supplement composition of  claim 6  and wherein the cocoa butter component comprises cocoa butter. 
   
   
       8 . The supplement composition of  claim 4  and wherein the fat component is cocoa butter present at from about 0.5% to about 10% by weight of the composition. 
   
   
       9 . The supplement composition of  claim 8  and wherein the cocoa butter is present at from about 3% to about 3.5%, by weight. 
   
   
       10 . The supplement composition of  claim 4  and wherein the cocoa butter component is selected from the group consisting of a cocoa butter extender, a cocoa butter replacer, a cocoa butter substitute, and mixtures thereof. 
   
   
       11 . The supplement composition of  claim 4  and further comprising animal fat and a cocoa butter component. 
   
   
       12 . The supplement composition of  claim 4  and further comprising paraffin wax. 
   
   
       13 . The supplement composition of  claim 4  and wherein the supplement composition is nutritionally balanced. 
   
   
       14 . The supplement composition of  claim 4  and wherein the supplement composition is in the form of a supplement selected from the group consisting of tablets, capsules, powders, biscuits, chews, edible films, and mixtures thereof. 
   
   
       15 . The supplement composition of  claim 4  and wherein the supplement composition comprises between about 1% and about 20% crude protein, by weight of the composition. 
   
   
       16 . The supplement composition of  claim 4  and wherein the supplement composition comprises between about 25% and about 35% fat, by weight of the composition. 
   
   
       17 . The supplement composition of  claim 4  and wherein the supplement composition comprises between about 1% and about 1.5% crude fiber, by weight of the composition. 
   
   
       18 . The supplement composition of  claim 4  and wherein the supplement composition comprises between about 1% and about 3% water, by weight of the composition. 
   
   
       19 . The supplement composition of  claim 4  and wherein the supplement composition comprises between about 2% and about 3% ash, by weight of the composition. 
   
   
       20 . The supplement composition of  claim 4  and further comprising a sweetener component.
