Abstract

Self-tapping blind rivet ( 10 ) having a mandrel ( 12 ) carrying a hole-forming tip ( 16 ) at its end facing the workpiece, wherein the tip ( 16 ) is performed as an apparatus for drilling the rivet's own placing hole, wherein a positive or non-positive connection is provided between the mandrel ( 12 ) of the rivet and the rivet shank ( 18 ) and, wherein a force application point ( 26 ) for a tool is provided at or in the rivet head ( 20 ), and a method for placing such a blind rivet.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 - 15 . (canceled)

16 . Self-tapping blind rivet having a mandrel which is carrying a hole forming tip at its end facing the work-piece, wherein the tip is performed as an apparatus for drilling the own placing hole and, wherein a positive fit or non-positive fit connection is provided between the mandrel of the rivet and the rivet shank, characterized in that a force application point for a tool is provided within or at the rivet head and, that the mandrel of the rivet at least on the side of the work-piece with respect to the predetermined breaking point is provided with a knurling and, that the rivet shank in the area of this knurling is crimped.

17 . Self-tapping blind rivet according to claim 16 , characterized in that the tip is performed as a spherical friction surface for non-cutting drilling by thermic softening of the work-piece by rotation of the friction surface.

3 . A method for placing a blind rivet for joining two or more work-pieces, wherein the work-pieces previously are not provided with a bore but instead the blind rivet is creating its bore by the feature that the tip of the mandrel of the blind rivet is turned and the bore is produced in this way while the blind rivet is placed, characterized in that the blind rivet by means of a force application point being provided at the head of its shank is rotationally driven and the rotational forces are transferred from the shank to the mandrel of the rivet and from the same to the tip and to this end the mandrel of the rivet at least on the side of the work-piece with respect to the predetermined breaking point is provided with a knurling and, that the rivet shank in the area of this knurling is crimped and, in this way, the drive force for the rotational movement of the tip of the mandrel of the rivet is transferred.
