Lprf device wake up using wireless tag

Abstract

A wireless transceiver includes: (a) a low power radio frequency (LPRF) communications component capable of powering down to conserve energy and capable of powering up in response to an electronic signal, the LPRF communications component including a transmitter and a first receiver; and (b) a second receiver that is configured to screen a radio frequency broadcast and provide, on the basis of specific data identified therein, the electronic signal to the LPRF communications component in order to power up the LPRF communications component. The second receiver is adapted to draw less current than the LPRF communications component while awaiting receipt of and listening for a radio frequency broadcast.

 a shipment conveyance device, wherein the shipment conveyance device is a shipping container, a pallet, or a piece of luggage;   a global positioning device, wherein the global positioning device is located in, on, or at, the shipment conveyance device, and further wherein the global positioning device determines a position or location of the shipment conveyance device;   a processing device, wherein the processing device processes information regarding the shipment conveyance device in response to an occurrence of an event or in response to a request for information regarding the shipment conveyance device, wherein the processing device generates a message containing information regarding the position or location of the shipment conveyance device and information regarding the occurrence of an event, a status of a shipment or a transportation of or involving the shipment conveyance device, a shipment or transportation temperature, or an impact or force on the shipment conveyance device; and   a transmitter, wherein the transmitter is located in, on, or at, the shipment conveyance device, wherein the transmitter transmits the message to a communication device associated with an individual or entity, a sender of the shipment conveyance device, a receiver of the shipment conveyance device, a carrier of the shipment conveyance device, or an individual or entity authorized to receive information regarding the shipment conveyance device or information regarding a shipment or a transportation of or involving the shipment conveyance device.

 a shipment conveyance device, wherein the shipment conveyance device is a shipping container;   a global positioning device, wherein the global positioning device is located in, on, or at, the shipment conveyance device, and further wherein the global positioning device determines a position or location of the shipment conveyance device;   a processing device, wherein the processing device processes information regarding the shipment conveyance device in response to an occurrence of an event or in response to a request for information regarding the shipment conveyance device, wherein the processing device generates a message containing information regarding the position or location of the shipment conveyance device and information regarding a shipment or transportation temperature; and   a transmitter, wherein the transmitter is located in, on, or at, the shipment conveyance device, wherein the transmitter transmits the message to a communication device associated with an individual or entity.

 a shipment conveyance device, wherein the shipment conveyance device is a shipping container;   a global positioning device, wherein the global positioning device is located in, on, or at, the shipment conveyance device, and further wherein the global positioning device determines a position or location of the shipment conveyance device;   a processing device, wherein the processing device processes information regarding the shipment conveyance device in response to an occurrence of an event or in response to a request for information regarding the shipment conveyance device, wherein the processing device generates a message containing information regarding the position or location of the shipment conveyance device and information regarding a status of a shipment or a transportation of or involving the shipment conveyance device; and   a transmitter, wherein the transmitter is located in, on, or at, the shipment conveyance device, wherein the transmitter transmits the message to a communication device associated with an individual or entity.

 a shipment conveyance device, wherein the shipment conveyance device is a pallet;   a global positioning device, wherein the global positioning device is located in, on, or at, the shipment conveyance device, and further wherein the global positioning device determines a position or location of the shipment conveyance device;   a processing device, wherein the processing device processes information regarding the shipment conveyance device in response to an occurrence of an event or in response to a request for information regarding the shipment conveyance device, wherein the processing device generates a message containing information regarding the position or location of the shipment conveyance device and information regarding the occurrence of an event, a status of a shipment or a transportation of or involving the shipment conveyance device, or a shipment or transportation temperature; and   a transmitter, wherein the transmitter is located in, on, or at, the shipment conveyance device, wherein the transmitter transmits the message to a communication device associated with an individual or entity.

 a shipment conveyance device, wherein the shipment conveyance device is a pallet;   a global positioning device, wherein the global positioning device is located in, on, or at, the shipment conveyance device, and further wherein the global positioning device determines a position or location of the shipment conveyance device;   a processing device, wherein the processing device processes information regarding the shipment conveyance device in response to an occurrence of an event or in response to a request for information regarding the shipment conveyance device, wherein the processing device generates a message containing information regarding the position or location of the shipment conveyance device and information regarding a status of a shipment or a transportation of or involving the shipment conveyance device; and   a transmitter, wherein the transmitter is located in, on, or at, the shipment conveyance device, wherein the transmitter transmits the message to a communication device associated with an individual or entity.

 a shipment conveyance device, wherein the shipment conveyance device is a shipping container;   a global positioning device, wherein the global positioning device is located in, on, or at, the shipment conveyance device, and further wherein the global positioning device determines a position or location of the shipment conveyance device;   a processing device, wherein the processing device processes information regarding the shipment conveyance device in response to an occurrence of an event or in response to a request for information regarding the shipment conveyance device, wherein the processing device generates a message containing information regarding the position or location of the shipment conveyance device and information regarding the occurrence of an event, a status of a shipment or a transportation of or involving the shipment conveyance device, a shipment or transportation temperature, or an impact or force on the shipment conveyance device; and   a transmitter, wherein the transmitter is located in, on, or at, the shipment conveyance device, wherein the transmitter transmits the message to a communication device associated with an individual or entity, a sender of the shipment conveyance device, a receiver of the shipment conveyance device, a carrier of the shipment conveyance device, or an individual or entity authorized to receive information regarding the shipment conveyance device or information regarding a transportation of or involving the shipment conveyance device.

 a shipment conveyance device, wherein the shipment conveyance device is a pallet;   a global positioning device, wherein the global positioning device is located in, on, or at, the shipment conveyance device, and further wherein the global positioning device determines a position or location of the shipment conveyance device;   a processing device, wherein the processing device processes information regarding the shipment conveyance device in response to an occurrence of an event or in response to a request for information regarding the shipment conveyance device, wherein the processing device generates a message containing information regarding the position or location of the shipment conveyance device and information regarding the occurrence of an event, a status of a shipment or a transportation of or involving the shipment conveyance device, a shipment or transportation temperature, or an impact or force on the shipment conveyance device; and   a transmitter, wherein the transmitter is located in, on, or at, the shipment conveyance device, wherein the transmitter transmits the message to a communication device associated with an individual or entity, a sender of the shipment conveyance device, a receiver of the shipment conveyance device, a carrier of the shipment conveyance device, or an individual or entity authorized to receive information regarding the shipment conveyance device or information regarding a transportation of or involving the shipment conveyance device.

 a shipment conveyance device, wherein the shipment conveyance device is a piece of luggage;   a global positioning device, wherein the global positioning device is located in, on, or at, the shipment conveyance device, and further wherein the global positioning device determines a position or location of the shipment conveyance device;   a processing device, wherein the processing device processes information regarding the shipment conveyance device in response to an occurrence of an event or in response to a request for information regarding the shipment conveyance device, wherein the processing device generates a message containing information regarding the position or location of the shipment conveyance device and information regarding the occurrence of an event, a status of a transportation of or involving the shipment conveyance device, a transportation temperature, or an impact or force on the shipment conveyance device; and   a transmitter, wherein the transmitter is located in, on, or at, the shipment conveyance device, wherein the transmitter transmits the message to a communication device associated with an individual or entity, a sender of the shipment conveyance device, a receiver of the shipment conveyance device, a carrier of the shipment conveyance device, or an individual or entity authorized to receive information regarding the shipment conveyance device or information regarding a transportation of or involving the shipment conveyance device.

 a shipment conveyance device, wherein the shipment conveyance device is a shipping container, a pallet, or a piece of luggage;   a global positioning device, wherein the global positioning device is located in, on, or at, the shipment conveyance device, and further wherein the global positioning device determines a position or location of the shipment conveyance device;   a processing device, wherein the processing device processes information regarding the shipment conveyance device in response to an occurrence of an event, wherein the processing device generates a message containing information regarding the position or location of the shipment conveyance device and information regarding the occurrence of an event; and   a transmitter, wherein the transmitter is located in, on, or at, the shipment conveyance device, wherein the transmitter transmits the message to a communication device associated with an individual or entity, a sender of the shipment conveyance device, a receiver of the shipment conveyance device, a carrier of the shipment conveyance device, or an individual or entity authorized to receive information regarding the shipment conveyance device or information regarding a transportation of or involving the shipment conveyance device.

 a shipment conveyance device, wherein the shipment conveyance device is a shipping container, or a pallet;   a global positioning device, wherein the global positioning device is located in, on, or at, the shipment conveyance device, and further wherein the global positioning device determines a position or location of the shipment conveyance device;   a processing device, wherein the processing device processes information regarding the shipment conveyance device in response to an occurrence of an event, wherein the processing device generates a message containing information regarding the position or location of the shipment conveyance device and information regarding the occurrence of an event; and   a transmitter, wherein the transmitter is located in, on, or at, the shipment conveyance device, wherein the transmitter transmits the message to a communication device associated with an individual or entity.

 a shipment conveyance device, wherein the shipment conveyance device is a shipping container, a pallet, or a piece of luggage;   a global positioning device, wherein the global positioning device is located in, on, or at, the shipment conveyance device, and further wherein the global positioning device determines a position or location of the shipment conveyance device;   a processing device, wherein the processing device processes information regarding the shipment conveyance device in response to a request for information regarding the shipment conveyance device, wherein the processing device generates a message containing information regarding the position or location of the shipment conveyance device and information regarding a status of a shipment or a transportation of or involving the shipment conveyance device; and   a transmitter, wherein the transmitter is located in, on, or at, the shipment conveyance device, wherein the transmitter transmits the message to a communication device associated with an individual or entity.

 a shipment conveyance device;   a wireless reader tag (WRT) located in, on, or at the shipment conveyance device, the WRT including a memory, a global positioning system (GPS) receiver, a processor, and a transmitter,   wherein the global positioning device determines a position or location of the shipment conveyance device;   wherein the processing device processes information regarding the shipment conveyance device in response to an occurrence of an event or in response to a request for information regarding the shipment conveyance device, wherein the processing device generates a message containing information regarding the position or location of the shipment conveyance device and information regarding the occurrence of an event, a status of a shipment or a transportation of or involving the shipment conveyance device, a transportation temperature, or an impact or force on the shipment conveyance device; and   wherein the transmitter transmits the message to a communications device associated with an individual or entity.   
     
     
         27 . An apparatus, comprising:
 a shipment conveyance device;   a gateway located in, on, or at the shipment conveyance device, the gateway including a memory, a global positioning system (GPS) receiver, a processor, and a transmitter,   wherein the global positioning device determines a position or location of the shipment conveyance device;   wherein the processing device processes information regarding the shipment conveyance device in response to an occurrence of an event or in response to a request for information regarding the shipment conveyance device, wherein the processing device generates a message containing information regarding the position or location of the shipment conveyance device and information regarding the occurrence of an event, a status of a shipment or a transportation of or involving the shipment conveyance device, a transportation temperature, or an impact or force on the shipment conveyance device; and   wherein the transmitter transmits the message to a communications device associated with an individual or entity.   
     
     
         28 . The apparatus of  claim 27 , wherein the gateway is a mobile locating gateway (MLG). 
     
     
         29 . The apparatus of  claim 26 , wherein the shipment conveyance device comprises a shipping container.

         36 . The apparatus of  claim 2 , wherein the message contains information regarding a stop made by a carrier of the shipment conveyance device or information regarding the shipment or the transportation of or involving the shipment conveyance device.

The apparatus of  claim 2 , further comprising: a sensor, wherein the sensor monitors or measures a temperature during the shipment or the transportation of the shipment conveyance device, wherein the message contains information regarding a temperature of the shipment or the transportation. 
     
     
         38 . The apparatus of  claim 2 , wherein the message contains information regarding an unusual stopping period regarding the shipment or the transportation of or involving the shipment conveyance device. 
     
     
         39 . The apparatus of  claim 2 , wherein the processing device is programmed to automatically generate the message. 
     
     
         40 . The apparatus of  claim 2 , wherein the processing device generates a delivery message, and further wherein the apparatus transmits the delivery message to the communication device. 
     
     
         41 . The apparatus of  claim 2 , wherein the event is a detection of a deviation from a pre-determined transportation route associated with the transportation of or involving the shipment conveyance device. 
     
     
         42 . The apparatus of  claim 2 , wherein the event is a detection of an unauthorized carrier or a wrong carrier shipping or transporting the shipment conveyance device. 
     
     
         43 . The apparatus of  claim 2 , wherein the event is a detection of an unauthorized receiver of the shipment conveyance device or a wrong receiver of the shipment conveyance device. 
     
     
         44 . The apparatus of  claim 2 , wherein the event is a detection of a shipment or transportation temperature which deviates from a shipment or transportation temperature requirement. 
     
     
         45 . The apparatus of  claim 2 , wherein the message is transmitted via, on, or over, the Internet or the World Wide Web. 
     
     
         46 . The apparatus of  claim 2 , wherein the communication device is a wireless device.

 a shipping container;   a global positioning device, wherein the global positioning device is located in, on, or at, the shipping container, and further wherein the global positioning device determines a position or location of the shipping container;   a processing device, wherein the processing device processes information regarding the shipping container in response to an occurrence of an event or in response to a request for information regarding the shipping container, wherein the processing device generates a message containing information regarding the position or location of the shipping container and information regarding the occurrence of an event, a status of a shipment or a transportation of or involving the shipping container, a shipment or a transportation temperature, or an impact or force on the shipping container; and   a transmitter, wherein the transmitter is located in, on, or at, the shipping container, wherein the transmitter transmits the message to a communication device associated with an individual or entity, a sender of the shipping container, a receiver of the shipping container, a carrier of the shipping container, or an individual or entity authorized to receive information regarding the shipping container or information regarding a shipment or a transportation of or involving the shipping container.   
     
     
         48 . An apparatus, comprising:
 a shipment conveyance device;   a global positioning device, wherein the global positioning device is located proximate the shipment conveyance device, and further wherein the global positioning device determines a position of the shipment conveyance device;   a processing device, wherein the processing device processes information regarding the shipment conveyance device, and wherein the processing device generates a message containing information regarding the position of the shipment conveyance device and additional information; and a transmitter, wherein the transmitter is located proximate the shipment conveyance device, and wherein the transmitter transmits the message to a communication device.   
     
     
         49 . The apparatus of  claim 48 , wherein the communication device is associated with an individual. 
     
     
         50 . The apparatus of  claim 48 , wherein the communication device is associated with an entity. 
     
     
         51 . The apparatus of  claim 48 , wherein the shipment information comprises origination information. 
     
     
         52 . The apparatus of  claim 48 , wherein the shipment information comprises destination information. 
     
     
         53 . The apparatus of  claim 48 , wherein the processing device processes information regarding the shipment conveyance device in response to an occurrence of an event at the shipment conveyance device. 
     
     
         54 . The apparatus of  claim 48 , wherein the processing device processes information regarding the shipment conveyance device response to a request for information regarding the shipment conveyance device. 
     
     
         55 . The apparatus of  claim 48 , wherein the additional information regards the occurrence of an event at the shipment conveyance device. 
     
     
         56 . The apparatus of  claim 48 , wherein the additional information regards a status of the shipment conveyance device. 
     
     
         57 . The apparatus of  claim 48 , wherein the additional information regards a temperature associated with the shipment conveyance device. 
     
     
         58 . The apparatus of  claim 48 , wherein the additional information regards a force on the shipment conveyance device. 
     
     
         59 . The apparatus of  claim 48 , wherein the shipment conveyance device is a shipping container. 
     
     
         60 . The apparatus of  claim 48 , wherein the shipment conveyance device is a pallet. 
     
     
         61 . The apparatus of  claim 48 , wherein the shipment conveyance device is a piece of luggage. 
     
     
         62 . An apparatus, comprising:
 a shipment conveyance device;   a wireless reader tag (WRT) located proximate the shipment conveyance device, the WRT including a memory, a global positioning system (GPS) receiver, a processor, and a transmitter,   wherein the global positioning device determines a position of the shipment conveyance device;   wherein the processing device processes information regarding the shipment conveyance device in response to an occurrence of an event, and wherein the processing device generates a message containing information regarding the position of the shipment conveyance device and additional information regarding the occurrence of the event; and   wherein the transmitter transmits the message to a communications device.   
     
     
         63 . An apparatus, comprising:
 a shipment conveyance device;   a wireless reader tag (WRT) located proximate the shipment conveyance device, the WRT including a memory, a global positioning system (GPS) receiver, a processor, and a transmitter, wherein the global positioning device determines a position of the shipment conveyance device;   wherein the processing device processes information regarding the shipment conveyance device in response to a request for information regarding the shipment conveyance device, and wherein the processing device generates a message containing information regarding the position of the shipment conveyance device and additional information pertaining to the shipment conveyance device; and   wherein the transmitter transmits the message to a communications device.   
     
     
         64 . An apparatus, comprising:
 a shipment conveyance device;   a gateway located proximate the shipment conveyance device, the gateway including a memory, a global positioning system (GPS) receiver, a processor, and a transmitter, wherein the global positioning device determines a position of the shipment conveyance device;   wherein the processing device processes information regarding the shipment conveyance device in response to an occurrence of an event or in response to a request for information regarding the shipment conveyance device, wherein the processing device generates a message containing information regarding the position of the shipment conveyance device and information regarding the occurrence of an event or a status of the shipment conveyance device; and   wherein the transmitter transmits the message to a communications device associated with an individual or entity.   
     
     
         65 . The apparatus of  claim 64 , wherein the message transmitted by the transmitter is a class-based message. 
     
     
         66 . The apparatus of  claim 64 , wherein the processing device generates a message containing information regarding the shipment conveyance device in response to a class-based message containing a request for information regarding shipment conveyance device. 
     
     
         67 . An apparatus, comprising:
 a shipping container, wherein the shipment conveyance device is associated with a shipment, and further wherein the shipment conveyance device is at least one of a shipping container and a pallet;   a global positioning device, wherein the global positioning device is located proximate the shipment conveyance device, and further wherein the global positioning device determines a position of the shipment conveyance device;   a processing device, wherein the processing device processes information regarding the shipment and information regarding the shipment conveyance device in response to an occurrence of an event or in response to a request for information regarding the shipment or the shipment conveyance device, wherein the processing device generates a message containing information regarding the position of the shipment conveyance device and information regarding the occurrence of an event or a status of the shipment; and   a transmitter, wherein the transmitter is located proximate the shipment conveyance device, and wherein the transmitter transmits the message to an asset-tracking application at a server remotely located relative to the shipment conveyance device.
