Abstract

The use of collectins and/or surfactant proteins for the treatment and prevention of ocular disease.

1 . An ophthalmic composition comprising a collectin and a liquid aqueous medium compatible with application to a mammalian eye. 
     
     
         2 . The ophthalmic composition of  claim 1 , wherein said composition is an artificial tear composition. 
     
     
         3 . The ophthalmic composition of  claim 1 , wherein said composition is for storing, cleaning, re-wetting, or disinfecting a contact lens. 
     
     
         4 . The ophthalmic composition of  claim 1 , wherein said collectin is a tear surfactant protein. 
     
     
         5 . A kit for the treatment of a subject having an ocular disease, the kit comprising a pharmaceutical composition comprising a collectin and instructions for the administration of the collectin.
