Abstract
A network topology management system includes information processing units, storage units, connection units that control connection switching between the information processing units and the storage units, a management unit that manages a network topology consisting of the information processing units, the storage units and the connection units, and an emulator connected to the connection units and to the management unit the network. The emulator comprises a conversion section that converts first equipment identification information that identifies the information processing units or the storage units into second equipment identification information that is recognizable by the management unit to identify the information processing units or the storage units, and a transmitting section that sends the second equipment identification information to the management unit. The management device has a control section that manages the network topology based on the second equipment identification information.

25 . A topology management system comprising:
first managed units which are assigned first communication identifiers of first type; second managed units which are assigned second communication identifiers of second type different to the first type; a first network unit connected to the first managed units, and including first control information indicating two or more of the first communication identifiers, of which two or more of the first managed units allow communicate each other; a second network unit connected to the second managed units, and including second control information indicating two or more of the second communication identifiers, of which two or more of the second managed units allow communicate each other; and a management unit, which receives a first communication allowance request designating a certain identifier of the first type, and which sends a second communication allowance request designating a second certain identifier which is the second type and corresponds to the certain identifier of the first type, and wherein the second network unit changes the second control information, based on the second communication allowance request.
26 . A topology management system according to claim 25 ,
wherein the first communication identifiers and the second communication identifiers are WWNs and MAC addresses.
27 . A topology management system according to claim 25 ,
wherein the first communication identifiers and the second communication identifiers are WWNs and IP addresses.
28 . A topology management method for an information processing system including a first network unit, a second network unit, and a management unit, the method comprising:
by first managed units which are assigned first communication identifiers of first type; second managed units which are assigned second communication identifiers of second type different to the first type; by the first network unit connected to the first ports assigned first communication identifiers of first type, controlling communication based on first control information indicating two or more of the first communication identifiers, of which two or more of the first managed units allow communicate each other; by the second network unit connected to the second ports assigned second communication identifiers of second type different to the first type, controlling communication based on second control information indicating two or more of the second communication identifiers, of which two or more of the second managed units allow communicate each other; by the management unit, receiving a first communication allowance request designating a certain Identifier of the first type; by the management unit, sending a second communication allowance request designating a second certain identifier which is the second type and corresponds to the certain identifier of the first type; and by the second network unit, changing the second control information, based on the second communication allowance request.
29 . A topology management method according to claim 28 ,
wherein the first network unit and the second network unit are a Fibre Channel switch and a Ethernet switch.
30 . A topology management system according to claim 29 ,
