Uses of antibodies

Abstract

The present invention provides a method of preparing an antibody-containing milk or egg product for use in preventing and/or treating of a non-infectious medical condition. The invention also provides non-systemic modes of administering pharmaceutical compositions including the antibody-containing milk or egg products, including to the GI tract.

         57 . A method of preparing an antibody-containing milk or egg product comprising vaccinating a mammal or a bird and obtaining milk from the mammal or eggs from the bird, wherein the antibody-containing milk or egg product prevents and/or treats a non-infectious medical condition selected from a cancer, a non-cancerous condition and a hyperproliferative condition. 
     
     
         58 . The method of  claim 57 , wherein the cancer is selected from a skin cancer, an eye cancer, a bladder cancer, a vaginal cancer, a cervical cancer, an oropharynx cancer, a nasopharynx cancer and a gastrointestinal cancer; wherein the non-cancerous condition is selected from Barrett's oesophagus, colorectal polyps and following colorectal polypectomy; and wherein the hyperproliferative condition is psoriasis. 
     
     
         59 . The method of  claim 57 , wherein the mammal or the bird is vaccinated with a molecule from the surface of a mammalian cell, wherein the molecule is selected from EphB1, EphB2, EphB4, EfnA1 and EfnB2. 
     
     
         60 . The method of  claim 59 , wherein the molecule is EphB4. 
     
     
         61 . The method of  claim 57 , wherein the mammal or the bird is vaccinated with an immunogenic peptide having the sequence, PVAGSCWDAVPAPGPSPSLY, as set forth in SEQ ID NO:4. 
     
     
         62 . A method for preventing and/or treating a non-infectious medical condition selected from a cancer, a non-cancerous condition and a hyperproliferative condition, comprising non-systemically administering to a subject, an antibody-containing milk or egg product prepared by the method of  claim 57 .

A method for preventing and/or treating a non-infectious medical condition selected from a cancer, a non-cancerous condition and a hyperproliferative condition, comprising non-systemically administering to a subject, an antibody-containing milk or egg product prepared by the method of  claim 59 . 
     
     
         64 . The method of  claim 62 , wherein the cancer is selected from a skin cancer, an eye cancer, a bladder cancer, a vaginal cancer, a cervical cancer, an oropharynx cancer, a nasopharynx cancer, and a gastrointestinal cancer; wherein the non-cancerous condition is selected from Barrett's oesophagus, colorectal polyps and following colorectal polypectomy; and wherein the hyperproliferative condition is psoriasis. 
     
     
         65 . The method of  claim 62 , wherein the administration comprises introducing the antibody-containing milk or egg product directly into the gastrointestinal tract of the subject. 
     
     
         66 . The method of  claim 65 , wherein the antibody-containing milk or egg product is administered orally or rectally. 
     
     
         67 . The method of  claim 62 , wherein the antibody-containing milk or egg product is applied topically to the cancer. 
     
     
         68 . A method of treating and/or preventing an oesophageal condition in a patient comprising non-systemically administering to a subject, an anti-EphB4 antibody. 
     
     
         69 . The method of  claim 68 , wherein the oesophageal condition is selected from Barrett's oesophagus and oesophageal cancer. 
     
     
         70 . The method of  claim 68 , wherein the anti-EphB4 antibody is raised against a peptide having the sequence, PVAGSCVVDAVPAPGPSPSLY, as set forth in SEQ ID NO:4. 
     
     
         71 . An antibody-containing milk or egg product prepared by the method of  claim 57 . 
     
     
         72 . An antibody-containing milk or egg product prepared by the method of  claim 59 . 
     
     
         73 . A pharmaceutical composition comprising an antibody-containing milk or egg product, wherein the milk or egg product is prepared by the method of  claim 57 , and wherein the composition is administered to prevent and/or treat a non-infectious medical condition. 
     
     
         74 . A pharmaceutical composition comprising an antibody-containing milk or egg product, wherein the milk or egg product is prepared by the method of  claim 59 , and wherein the composition is administered to prevent and/or treat a non-infectious medical condition.
