Abstract

A method of increasing the ex vivo viability of pancreatic islet cells comprising contacting the islet cells with a liver X receptor (LXR) agonist, particularly an LXRalpha agonist. Examples of especially useful LXR agonists include GW3965 and T0901317.

1 . A method of increasing ex vivo viability of primary pancreatic islet cells, said method comprising contacting said pancreatic islet cells with an LXR agonist. 
     
     
         2 . A method as claimed in  claim 1 , wherein the LXR agonist is an LXRalpha agonist. 
     
     
         3 . A method as claimed in  claim 1 , wherein the LXR agonist is selected from the group consisting of GW3965 and T0901317.
