Abstract

Devices, systems, and methods useful in treating an eye are provided herein. Certain embodiments of the devices, systems, and methods may be particularly suitable in maintaining separation of an anterior capsule and a posterior capsule of an evacuated lens capsule of an eye. Certain embodiments of the devices, systems, and methods may be particularly suitable for reducing scarring in the visual field of an eye having a capsulorhexis, among other things.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified

a device body having a membrane centrally disposed therein, the device body further having an upper portion and a lower portion; and a plurality of deformable haptics attached to the device body at a proximate end of the haptics, the plurality of deformable haptics comprising at least a first haptic, a second haptic, a third haptic, and a fourth haptic, wherein:
the first haptic and the second haptic are attached to the device body in opposing fashion adjacent the upper portion; and
the third haptic and the fourth haptic are attached to the device body in opposing fashion adjacent the lower portion.

2 . The device of claim 1 , further comprising an optic connected to the membrane.

3 . The device of claim 1 , further comprising a ring structure having an opening centrally disposed therein, the ring structure replacing the membrane.

4 . The device of claim 3 , further comprising a membrane disposed within, and replacing, the opening.

5 . The device of claim 3 , further comprising an optic disposed within, and replacing, the opening

6 . The device of claim 1 having a selected response to a bending force so as to separate opposite ends of a capsulorhexis when at least a first and second haptic are disposed along an exterior surface of the anterior capsule and at least a third and fourth haptic are disposed along an interior surface of the anterior capsule, and the device body is disposed between the opposing ends of the capsulorhexis.

7 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the haptics are formed from a plurality of strands or plates, the strands comprising a flexible biocompatible material.

8 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the haptics are formed from a plurality of strips, the strips comprising a flexible biocompatible material.

9 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the haptics are formed from a plurality of loops, the loops comprising a flexible biocompatible material.

10 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the haptics are formed from a plurality of spirals, the spirals comprising a flexible biocompatible material.

11 . The device of claim 1 , the third and fourth haptic having a selected response to a bending force so as to separate the anterior and the posterior capsule of the eye when the device body is disposed adjacent the anterior capsule and the third and fourth haptics are disposed in proximity to the posterior capsule, the fornix and a portion of the anterior capsule.

12 . The device of claim 1 having a selected response to a bending force so as to separate opposite ends of a capsulorhexis when at least a first and second haptic are disposed along an exterior surface of the anterior capsule and at least a third and fourth haptic are disposed along an interior surface of the anterior capsule, and the device body is disposed between the opposing ends of the capsulorhexis; wherein the third and fourth haptic have a selected response to a bending force so as to separate the anterior and the posterior capsule of the eye when the device body is disposed adjacent the anterior capsule and the third and fourth haptics are disposed in proximity to the posterior capsule, the fornix and a portion of the anterior capsule; and further comprising an optic attached to the third and fourth haptics at a distal end of each of the third and fourth haptic, such that when the third and fourth haptics are disposed in proximity to the posterior capsule, the fornix, and a portion of the anterior capsule, the optic is disposed against the posterior capsule.

13 . The device of claim 12 , further comprising an optic connected to the membrane.

14 . The device of claim 12 , further comprising a ring structure having an opening centrally disposed therein, the ring structure replacing the membrane.

15 . The device of claim 14 , further comprising an optic disposed within, and replacing, the opening

16 . A device for placement in a lens capsule of an eye, the lens capsule having a posterior capsule and an anterior capsule, the anterior capsule having an exterior surface and an interior surface, the anterior capsule further having a capsulorhexis therein, the device comprising:
a device body having a membrane centrally disposed therein; a plurality of deformable haptics attached to the device body at a proximate end of the haptics, at least two of the deformable haptics being of a length so as to extend from the anterior portion of the lens capsule to the posterior portion of the lens capsule when the device is placed within the lens capsule; and an optic connected to the distal end of at least two haptics, and means for securing the device body to the anterior portion of the lens capsule.

17 . A device as claimed in claim 16 wherein the membrane is an optic.

18 . A device as claimed in claim 17 wherein the means for securing the device body to the anterior lens capsule comprises at least a first haptic, a second haptic, a third haptic and a fourth haptic, where the first haptic and the second haptic are attached to the device body in opposing fashion adjacent the upper portion; and the third haptic and the forth haptic are attached to the device body in opposing fashion adjacent to the lower portion.

19 . The device of claim 16 wherein at least two haptics have a selected response to a bending force so as to separate the interior and the posterior capsule of the eye when the device body is disposed adjacent the anterior capsule and at least two haptics are disposed in proximity to the posterior capsule, the fornix and a portion of the anterior capsule.
