Diabetes Care Host-Client Architecture and Data Management System

Abstract

A host-client data sharing system manages diabetes care data. A host database, preferably web or internet based, is implemented for storing diabetes care data relating to multiple diabetics. A client or local database stores the diabetes care data relating to multiple diabetics on a personal appliance such as a PC, or a portable or handheld microprocessor-based computing device. The host database uses multiple servers for handling client interactions with the system.

         50 . A method of operating a diabetes care data management system having a display, a user interface, a processor, a memory and a user input device, the method comprising:
 measuring diabetes care data of a user with a diabetes monitoring device;   associating the diabetes care data with an event;   displaying a report comprising the diabetes care data;   saving to the memory the report comprising the diabetes care data associated with the event.   
     
     
         51 . The method of  claim 50 , further comprising separating the diabetes care data into one or more groups based on the event.

The method of  claim 51 , wherein the event comprises one or more of a date, a time, a time period, a sample site, a glucose reading, a glucose control reading, a time since last meal, a calibration code, an insulin dose, a meal value, an exercise session, a state of health, a health condition, a medication dose, a medical examination, a laboratory result, a ketone reading, a ketone control reading, and a note. 
     
     
         53 . The method of  claim 52 , wherein the event comprises the date and the time. 
     
     
         54 . The method of  claim 53 , wherein the one or more groups comprise a user selectable time period. 
     
     
         55 . The method of  claim 54 , wherein the user selectable time period comprises a pre-meal time period and a post-meal time period.

The method of  claim 54 , wherein the user selectable time period comprises one or more of a pre-breakfast time period, a post-breakfast time period, a pre-lunch time period, a post-lunch time period, a pre-dinner time period, a post-dinner time period, a bed time period, and a sleep time period. 
     
     
         57 . The method of  claim 50 , wherein the diabetes monitoring device comprises a blood glucose meter. 
     
     
         58 . The method of  claim 50 , further comprising displaying a graphical user interface comprising a user selectable option. 
     
     
         59 . The method of  claim 58 , further comprising highlighting the user selectable option. 
     
     
         60 . The method of  claim 58 , wherein the user selectable option comprises a drop-down menu, an icon, a tab, a toolbar, a triangle, an up arrow, a down arrow, an OK button, or a cancel button. 
     
     
         61 . The method of  claim 58 , wherein the user selectable option comprises a selectable date range for the report, and wherein the report comprises the diabetes care data within the selected date range. 
     
     
         62 . The method of  claim 58 , wherein the user selectable option comprises a device setup selection. 
     
     
         63 . The method of  claim 50 , further comprising indicating when the diabetes care data is outside the working range of the diabetes monitoring device. 
     
     
         64 . The method of  claim 50 , further comprising generating the report based on selection criteria for application in the report. 
     
     
         65 . The method of  claim 64 , wherein the selection criteria comprises patient profile information, demographic information, data event types, a range of values, dates, or combinations thereof. 
     
     
         66 . The method of  claim 50 , where the report comprises an average of the diabetes care data.
