Abstract

As described below, the present invention provides methods and compositions for controlling a honey bee parasitic mite. In addition, the invention features compositions useful for the treatment or prevention of a parasitic mite infestation in a honey bee hive.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
- 16 . (canceled)

. A composition for treating or preventing a honey bee parasitic mite infestation in a honey bee hive, the composition comprising an effective amount of a hop derivative in a suitable form for delivery to a hive.

. The composition of claim 17 , wherein the hop derivative is an alpha acid, beta acid, or combination of an alpha and a beta acid.

. The composition of claim 18 , wherein the composition comprises at least 2.5% alpha acids.

. The composition of claim 19 , wherein the composition comprises at least 7.5% alpha acids.

. The composition of claim 20 , wherein the composition comprises at least 15% alpha acids.

. The composition of claim 18 , wherein the composition comprises at least 2.5% beta acids.

. The composition of claim 22 , wherein the composition comprises at least 5% beta acids.

. The composition of claim 22 , wherein the composition comprises a combination of alpha and beta acids.

. The composition of claim 24 , wherein the composition comprises at least 2.5% beta acid and at least 7.5% alpha acids.

. The composition of claim 17 , wherein the form is selected from the group consisting of a liquid, a powder, an oil, an emulsion, a capsule, and a vapor.

. The composition of claim 17 , wherein the composition further comprises a carrier medium.

. A controlled release composition for treating or preventing a honey bee parasitic mite infestation in a hive, the composition comprising an effective amount of a hop derivative in a suitable form for delivery to a hive.

. The controlled release composition of claim 20 , wherein the hop derivative is released over the course of at least 14 days.

. The controlled release composition of claim 21 , wherein the hop derivative is released over the course of at least 41 days.

. A miticide delivery device, the device comprising a composition comprising an effective amount of a hop derivative for treating or preventing a honey bee parasitic mite infestation in a honey bee hive.

. The miticide delivery device of claim 31 , wherein the device is selected from the group consisting of a strip, controlled release strip, tablet, reservoir, polymer disc, evaporation device, fiber, tube, polymeric block, membrane, pellet, and microcapillary.

- 35 . (canceled)

. A kit for the treatment or prevention of an parasitic mite infestation, the kit comprising an effective amount of a hop derivative in a form suitable for delivery to a site of infestation.

. The kit of claim 36 , wherein the site of infestation is a bee hive.

. The kit of claim 36 , wherein the site of infestation is a bee.

- 50 . (canceled)
