Abstract

Disclosed herein are defoamers comprising ethylene glycol, a defoaming hydrocarbon base fluid, and a non-ionic surfactant wherein the hydrocarbon base fluid comprises an internal olefin or a straight-chain n-alcohol, and wherein the non-ionic surfactant is present in the defoamer in an amount in the range of from about 1% to about 10% by weight of the defoamer. Also disclosed herein are cement compositions comprising water, hydraulic cement, and a defoamer, wherein the defoamer comprises ethylene glycol, a non-ionic surfactant, and a defoaming hydrocarbon base fluid wherein the hydrocarbon base fluid comprises an internal olefin or a straight-chain n-alcohol, and wherein the non-ionic surfactant is present in the defoamer in an amount in the range of from about 1% to about 10% by weight of the defoamer.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 .- 20 . (canceled)

21 . A cement composition comprising: water, hydraulic cement, and a defoamer,
wherein the defoamer comprises ethylene glycol, a non-ionic surfactant, and a defoaming hydrocarbon base fluid wherein the hydrocarbon base fluid comprises an internal olefin or a straight-chain n-alcohol, and wherein the non-ionic surfactant is present in the defoamer in an amount in the range of from about 1% to about 10% by weight of the defoamer.

22 . The cement composition of claim 21 wherein the defoaming hydrocarbon base fluid is 1-hexanol and wherein ethylene glycol makes up from about 10% to about 50% of the combined weight of the ethylene glycol and the 1-hexanol.

23 . The cement composition of claim 21 wherein the defoamer further comprises at least one of the following group: graphite, aluminum stearate, hydrophobically modified clay, and mixtures thereof.

24 . The cement composition of claim 21 wherein the defoamer is present in the cement composition in an amount in the range of from about 0.01% to about 5% by weight of the cement.

25 . The cement composition of claim 21 wherein the ethylene glycol defoamer further comprises a co-solvent selected from the group consisting of ester based fluids, ethylene glycol, and propylene glycol.

26 . The cement composition of claim 25 wherein the ester-based fluid comprises an ester of 2-ethylhexanol and a plurality of monocarboxylic acids each comprising from about 6 to about 11 carbon atoms.

27 . The cement composition of claim 21 wherein the hydraulic cement comprises at least one of the following group: Portland cement, pozzolanic cement, gypsum cement, soil cement, calcium phosphate cement, high alumina content cement, silica cement, and high alkalinity cement.

28 . A defoamer for use in a cement composition, comprising ethylene glycol, a defoaming hydrocarbon base fluid, a non-ionic surfactant, and a hydrophobic particle.
wherein the hydrocarbon base fluid comprises an internal olefin or a straight-chain n-alcohol, and wherein the non-ionic surfactant is present in the defoamer in an amount in the range of from about 1% to about 10% by weight of the defoamer.

29 . The defoamer of claim 28 wherein the defoaming hydrocarbon base fluid is 1-hexanol and wherein ethylene glycol makes up from about 10% to about 50% of the combined weight of the ethylene glycol and the 1-hexanol.

         30 . The defoamer of claim 28 further comprising a co-solvent.

31 . The defoamer of claim 30 wherein the co-solvent comprises at least one of the following group: ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, and an ester-based fluid.

32 . The defoamer of claim 31 wherein the ester-based fluid comprises 2-ethylhexanol.

33 . The defoamer of claim 28 wherein the hydrophobic particle comprises at least one of the following: graphite, aluminum stearate, hydrophobically-modified silica, hydrophobically-modified clay, and mixtures thereof.
