Abstract
A method of compressing and decompressing an image dataset. The method includes providing an image dataset to be compressed and defining a compression factor, selecting a block size than 15 and a block overlap of two or more grid points, compressing said image dataset using said block size and said defined compression factor to obtain a compressed image dataset, and decompressing said compressed image dataset and performing grid point interpolation at or near said block overlap to obtain a decompressed image dataset.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A method of compressing and decompressing an image dataset, the method comprising:
providing an image dataset to be compressed and defining a compression factor; selecting a block size than 15 and a block overlap of two or more grid points; compressing said image dataset using said block size and said defined compression factor to obtain a compressed image dataset; and decompressing said compressed image dataset and performing grid point interpolation at or near said block overlap to obtain a decompressed image dataset.
2 . The method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said block size is greater than 16 pixels.
3 . The method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said block size is greater than 32 pixels.
4 . The method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said block size is greater than 64 pixels.
5 . The method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said compressing comprises:
calculating forward discrete orbit function transform (DOFT) coefficients representing each block of said image dataset having said block size; wherein said decompressing comprises: determining at least one continuous extension of discrete orbit function transform (CEDOFT) representing said blocks of said image dataset using said DOFT coefficients; defining a different spatial resolution; and calculating a decompressed image dataset using said at least one CEDOFT and said different spatial resolution.
6 . A method of compressing and decompressing an image dataset, the method comprising:
providing an image dataset to be compressed and defining a compression factor, wherein said image dataset when compressed and decompressed using a discrete cosine transform and block size of 16 results in noticeable block artifacts; selecting a suitably larger block size greater than 16; compressing said image dataset using said suitably larger block size and said defined compression factor to obtain a compressed image dataset; and decompressing said compressed image dataset to obtain a decompressed image dataset having no noticeable block artifacts.
7 . The method as claimed in claim 6 , wherein said suitably larger block size is greater than 32 pixels.
8 . The method as claimed in claim 6 , wherein said suitably larger block size is greater than 64 pixels.
9 . The method as claimed in claim 6 , wherein said suitably larger block size is greater than 128 pixels.
10 . The method as claimed in claim 6 , wherein said compressing comprises:
calculating forward discrete orbit function transform (DOFT) coefficients representing each block of said image dataset having said suitably larger block size;
wherein said decompressing comprises:
determining at least one continuous extension of discrete orbit function transform (CEDOFT) representing said blocks of said image dataset using said DOFT coefficients;
defining a different spatial resolution; and
calculating a decompressed image dataset using said at least one CEDOFT and said different spatial resolution.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
