Abstract

The present invention relates to a complex inorganic color effect material based on multiply coated platelet-shaped substrates wherein one of the layers is a complex inorganic colored pigment. The present color effect material may be used in automotive applications, security inks, and decorative coatings.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A color effect material comprising a laminar substrate having at least one layer sequence comprising:
 (A) a coating having a high refractive index disposed on the substrate; (B) a coating having a low refractive index disposed on said layer (A); (C) a coating having a high refractive index disposed on said layer (B); and (D) optionally, an external layer disposed on said layer (C); wherein one or more of layers (A), (C), or (D) comprise copper chromite.

2 . The color effect material of claim 1 wherein layer (D) is copper chromite.

3 . The color effect material of claim 1 wherein the layer (B) has a refractive index of ≦1.9.

4 . The color effect material of claim 1 wherein the layer (B) is silicon dioxide.

5 . The color effect material of claim 1 wherein the layer (A) and the layer (C) both have a refractive index of ≧1.95.

6 . The color effect material of claim 1 wherein the layer (A) and the layer (C) both are metal oxides and the layer (D) is copper chromite.

7 . The color effect material of claim 1 wherein the layer (A) is a metal oxide, the layer (C) is copper chromite.

8 . The color effect material of claim 1 wherein the layer (A) is iron oxide.

9 . A color effect material comprising a laminar substrate having at least one layer sequence comprising:
 (A) a coating having a high refractive index disposed on the substrate; (B) a coating having a low refractive index disposed on said layer (A); (C) a coating having a high refractive index disposed on said layer (B); and (D) an external layer disposed on said layer (C), layer (D) being a complex inorganic color effect pigment.

10 . The color effect material of claim 9 wherein the complex inorganic color effect pigment of the layer (D) is copper chromite.

11 . The color effect material of claim 9 wherein the layer (B) has a refractive index of ≦1.9.

12 . The color effect material of claim 9 wherein the layer (B) is silicon dioxide.

13 . The color effect material of claim 9 wherein the layer (A) and the layer (C) both have a refractive index of ≧1.95.

14 . The color effect material of claim 9 wherein the layer (A) and the layer (C) both are metal oxides.

15 . The color effect material of claim 9 wherein the layer (A) and/or the layer (C) are complex inorganic color effect pigment.

16 . The color effect material of claim 9 wherein the layer (A) is iron oxide.

17 . The color effect material of claim 9 wherein the layer (A) is a metal oxide and the layer (C) is a complex inorganic effect pigment.

18 . The color effect material of claim 14 wherein the layer (D) is copper chromite.

19 . The color effect material of claim 18 wherein the layer (A) is iron oxide.

20 . The color effect material of claim 12 , wherein the layer (A) is iron oxide.
