Abstract

The present invention provides compositions comprising an anti-angiogenic factor, and a polymeric carrier. Representative examples of anti-angiogenic factors include Anti-Invasive Factor, Retinoic acids and derivatives thereof, and taxol. Also provided are methods for embolizing blood vessels, and eliminating biliary, urethral, esophageal, and tracheal/bronchial obstructions.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
- 61 . (canceled)

. A method for expanding the lumen of a body passageway, comprising inserting a stent into the passageway, the stent having a generally tubular structure, the surface of said structure being coated with a composition comprising an anti-angiogenic factor and a polymeric carrier, such that said passageway is expanded.

. The method of claim 62 , wherein the stent is a vascular stent and the body passageway is a blood vessel.

. The method of claim 62 , wherein the factor consists of paclitaxel.

. The method of claim 63 , wherein the factor consists of paclitaxel.

. The method of claim 62 , wherein the polymeric carrier is biodegradable.

. The method of claim 62 , wherein the polymeric carrier is non-biodegradable.

. The method of claim 62 , wherein the stent is prepared by a process comprising directly affixing the composition to the stent.

. The method of claim 68 , wherein the stent is a vascular stent and the body passageway is a blood vessel.

. The method of claim 68 , wherein the factor consists of paclitaxel.

. The method of claim 62 , wherein the stent is prepared by a process comprising coating the stent with a substance and then absorbing the factor to the substance.

. The method of claim 71 , wherein the stent is a vascular stent and the body passageway is a blood vessel.

. The method of claim 71 , wherein the factor consists of paclitaxel.

. The method of claim 62 , wherein the stent is inserted after angiography.

. The method of claim 62 , wherein the body passageway is a coronary artery and the anti-angiogenic factor consists essentially of paclitaxel.

. The method of claim 62 , wherein the body passageway is a coronary artery and the anti-angiogenic factor consists of paclitaxel.

. The method of claim 62 , wherein the body passageway is a coronary artery and the anti-angiogenic factor comprises paclitaxel.
