Abstract

An insulation system for buildings, including fabric structures. Tensioned steel bands form a strap platform for holding insulation battings secured by stick-pins and locking washers.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A system for insulating a roof structure, comprising, in combination:
a plurality of purlins forming part of said roof structure; a plurality of steel bands affixed to said purlins forming a strap platform; each said steel bands having a plurality of holes therein; one or more battings disposed on said strap platform formed by said plurality of steel bands; a plurality of first stick-pins and mating first locking washers for securing said batting to said steel bands of said strap platform; and each said first stick-pin passing through an associated one of said holes in said steel bands, and through said batting, and secured thereto by an associated one of said first locking washers.

         2 . A system according to claim 1 , including:
a plastic sheet adjacent said batting for vapor protection.

         3 . A system according to claim 2 , including:
a plurality of second stick-pins and mating second locking washers for securing said plastic sheet to said batting and said steel bands of said strap platform.

         4 . A system according to claim 3 , wherein:
each said second stick-pin passes through an associated one of said holes in said steel bands, through said batting, through said plastic sheet, and is secured thereto by an associated one of said second locking washers.

         5 . A system according to claim 1 , 2 , 3 or 4 , wherein:
said batting includes insulation and a laminated sheet attached thereto.

6 . A method of insulating a roof structure, comprising, the steps of:
stretching a plurality of steel bands adjacent purlins of said roof structure to form a strap platform; securing said steel bands to said purlins; forming a plurality of holes in each of said steel bands placing one or more battings on said strap platform formed by said plurality of steel bands; passing a first stick-pin through an associated one of said holes and through said batting; and placing a first locking washer on an associated first stick-pin to secure said batting to said steel band.

7 . A method according to claim 6 , including the step of
placing a plastic sheet adjacent said batting for vapor protection.

8 . A method according to claim 7 , including the steps of:
passing a second stick-pin through an associated one of said holes in said steel bands, through said batting, and through said plastic sheet; and securing said plastic sheet in place by an associated second locking washer.

         9 . A method according to claim 6 , 7 or 8 , wherein:
said batting includes insulation and a laminated sheet attached thereto.

         10 . A method according to claim 6 , 7 , 8 or 9 , including the step of:
using screw type fasteners to secure said steel bands to said purlins.

         11 . A method according to claim 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 or 10 , including the step of:
compressing said batting when placing said first locking washer on an associated first stick-pin to secure said batting to said steel band.

12 . A method according to any one of claims 6 through 11 , including the step of:
maintaining said battings in a compressed condition at least adjacent said first locking washers.

13 . A method according to any one of claims 6 through 12 , including the step of:
after placing said first locking washer on said associated first stick-pin to secure said batting to said steel band, said first stick-pin is bent over to secure said first locking washer in place.
