Method and apparatus for wireless internet access

Abstract

A device for providing wireless Internet access has been described. The device includes an antenna. The antenna is for receiving wireless queries and transmitting wireless responses. The device includes a program. The program is for converting the wireless queries into Internet compatible protocols. The program is for receiving the Internet protocol formatted responses. These responses are then converted in to the wireless responses.

1 . A method for accessing data over a network using a device, the method comprising the steps of:
 storing information of an Internet site within an application on a memory of a device;   executing the application on a processor of the device;   rendering the information of the Internet site on a display coupled to the processor;   receiving user input entered through the application;   generating, by the processor through the application, a query configured to retrieve data from the Internet site;   sending the query, by the processor, wirelessly to a server external to the device to cause the server to request the data from the Internet site;   receiving, at the device, a compressed response from the server, the compressed response including the requested data from the Internet site; and   rendering the requested data on a display of the device.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the information represents a static portion of a web site tree. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the requested data represent dynamically generated data of a web site tree. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the query is compressed. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising the steps of:
 displaying a list of applications on the display of the device;   receiving a user selection of at least one of the applications in the list of applications; and   in response to the user selection, executing the selected application.   
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the query is generated in a protocol that is compressed. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the display is contact sensitive, and wherein the processor receives the user input by detecting contact on the display. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the information and the requested data constitute a distributed web site. 
     
     
         9 . A method for access data over a network using a device, the method comprising the steps of:
 storing information of an Internet site within an application on a memory of a device, the information comprising query forms of the Internet site;   executing the application on a processor of the device;   rendering the information of the Internet site on a display coupled to the processor;   receiving user input entered through at least one query form;   generating, by the processor through the application, a query configured to retrieve data from the Internet site;   sending the query, by the processor, wirelessly to a server external to the device to cause the server to request the data from the Internet site;   receiving, at the device, a compressed response from the server, the compressed response including the requested data from the Internet site; and   rendering the requested data on a display of the device.   
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 9 , wherein the query forms are related to an Internet site selected from the group of: a weather site, a food site, a news site, a financial site, and a gaming site. 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 9 , wherein the query is compressed. 
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 9 , further comprising the steps of:
 displaying a list of applications on the display of the device;   receiving a user selection of at least one of the applications in the list of applications; and   in response to the user selection, executing the selected application.   
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 9 , wherein the query is generated in a protocol that is compressed. 
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 9 , wherein the display is contact sensitive, and wherein the processor receives the user input by detecting contact on the display. 
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 9 , wherein the information and the requested data constitute a distributed web site. 
     
     
         16 . A system comprising:
 a display;   a memory storing at least one application, the application comprising at least one portion of a distributed Internet site;   a wireless communication mechanism; and   a processor coupled to the display, the wireless communication mechanism, and the memory, the processor configured to:   execute the application;   receive a user input entered through the application;   generate a query, the query configured to retrieve a second portion of the distributed Internet site;   send the query using the wireless communication mechanism to a server external to the system;   receive a compressed response from the server, the compressed response including the second portion of the distributed Internet site;   display the second portion of the distributed Internet site.   
     
     
         17 . The system of  claim 16 , wherein the at least one portion represents a static portion of a web site tree. 
     
     
         18 . The system of  claim 16 , wherein the second portion represents dynamically generated data of a web site tree. 
     
     
         19 . The system of  claim 16 , wherein the query is compressed. 
     
     
         20 . The system of  claim 16 , wherein the query is generated in a protocol that is compressed.
