Financial planning document and process therefor

Abstract

A computer program that can be installed on a web server to assemble web pages that can be accessed over the Internet by password to prepare financial planning reports for a client. The program takes gross income, subtracts income taxes, subtracts all money put into savings programs, and whatever is left is what the client spends in a given year or month. It further itemizes and subtracts the monthly payments for debt service since these items will be fully amortized or paid off at some point in the future and should not be included in baseline living expenses that will continue through a person's lifetime. The balance left after these calculations are completed represents the individual's current annual living expenses or standard of living that needs to be sustained throughout their lifetime with adjustments for inflation. The program can produce three major reports: (1) an income and expense report; (2) an asset and liability report or balance sheet; and (3) a cash flow report that shows all of items that impact cash flow on a year by year basis throughout the rest of the individual or client's lifetime. If there are cash flow shortfalls in any year, the program uses a two step present value calculation to determine how much the individual would need in a lump sum today or contribute monthly or annually to provide sufficient funds in the year needed to fill the shortfall.

1 . An apparatus for presenting a web page with dynamically referenced data to a remote computer, the apparatus comprises:
 a web server wherein the web server prepares to return a web page initially requested by a computer wherein the web page will be displaying a plurality of pieces of dynamically referenced data;   a memory in the web server, wherein the memory stores data from a database associated with the web server, wherein the data is used to generate the plurality of pieces of dynamically referenced data; and   wherein the web server calculates the plurality of pieces of dynamically referenced data based on the data from the database, generates an encoded format piece of data that contains the plurality of pieces of dynamically referenced data, generates the web page that contains the plurality of pieces of dynamically referenced data and communicates the web page and the encoded format piece of data to the computer.   
     
     
         2 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the web server retrieves the encoded format piece of data when the computer requests the same web page with the plurality of pieces of dynamically referenced data and generates the web page that contains the plurality of pieces of dynamically referenced data based on the retrieved encoded format piece of data so that the dynamically referenced data is generated in the web page. 
     
     
         3 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the plurality of pieces of dynamically referenced data are one of row calculations in a spreadsheet and column calculations in the spreadsheet. 
     
     
         4 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the data in the database further comprises one or more of a name, a year of birth, a retirement age, a social security age for a client, an income item, an investment item, a monthly expense item and a tax percentage. 
     
     
         5 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the memory uses data structures to store the data from a database. 
     
     
         6 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the web server begins a session for the computer when preparing to return a web page initially requested by a computer. 
     
     
         7 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the encoded format piece of data is a text format piece of data. 
     
     
         8 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the encoded format piece of data is transmitted to the computer in a non-displayed area of the web page. 
     
     
         9 . A method for presenting dynamically referenced data in a web page on a computer, the method comprising:
 preparing, using a web server, to return a web page initially requested by a computer wherein the web page will be displaying a plurality of pieces of dynamically referenced data;   storing data from a database associated with the web server in a memory associated with the web server, wherein the data is used to generate the plurality of pieces of dynamically referenced data;   calculating, in the web server, the plurality of pieces of dynamically referenced data based on the data from the database;   generating, in the web server, an encoded format piece of data that contains the plurality of pieces of dynamically referenced data;   generating, in the web server, the web page that contains the plurality of pieces of dynamically referenced data; and   communicating, by the web server, the web page and the encoded format piece of data to the computer.   
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 9  further comprising retrieving, by the web server, the encoded format piece of data when the computer requests the same web page with the plurality of pieces of dynamically referenced data and generating in the web server, the web page that contains the plurality of pieces of dynamically referenced data based on the retrieved encoded format piece of data so that the dynamically referenced data is generated in the web page. 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 9 , wherein the plurality of pieces of dynamically referenced data are one of row calculations in a spreadsheet and column calculations in the spreadsheet. 
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 9 , wherein the data in the database further comprises one or more of a name, a year of birth, a retirement age, a social security age for a client, an income item, an investment item, a monthly expense item and a tax percentage. 
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 9 , wherein storing data from a database associated with the web server in a memory further comprises storing the data in a data structure. 
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 9 , wherein preparing to return a web page initially requested by a computer further comprises beginning a session for the computer. 
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 9 , wherein the encoded format piece of data is a text format piece of data. 
     
     
         16 . The method of  claim 9 , wherein the encoded format piece of data is transmitted to the computer in a non-displayed area of the web page.
