Abstract

In accordance with the present invention, an interactive user display application is provided. The application displays and refreshes images that are intended to represent users or members of a social network or other web-based service. Using these images, the interactive user display application allows a user of the application to interact with other users or their profiles while viewing their images or while interacting with or consuming media.

         81 . A method for facilitating connectivity between users, the method comprising:
 receiving music preferences from a user, wherein the music preferences comprise at least one of: a preferred artist, a preferred genre of music, a preferred song, and a preferred music station;   displaying a media interface that plays music based on the received music preferences;   receiving a plurality of user images from an information source, wherein each of the plurality of user images represents a member and has corresponding member information; and   automatically displaying one or more of the plurality of user images along with the music played by the media interface, wherein the one or more user images are selected for display based on at least one of the music played by the media interface and the received music preferences.   
     
     
         82 . The method of  claim 81 , wherein, in response to the user selecting one of the one or more user images, the user is provided with an opportunity to interact with that user associated with the selected user image. 
     
     
         83 . The method of  claim 81 , wherein the information source is one of: a social networking service, an Internet dating service, and an Internet e-commerce service, an Internet search engine, an email service provider, an instant messaging service provider, and an Internet portal. 
     
     
         84 . The method of  claim 81 , wherein each user image is selected for display from the plurality of user images based on at least one of: users that like the song currently played on the media interface, users that like the artist currently played on the media interface, users that are listening to music from the same artist being played on the media interface, users that are listening to a song from the same album being played on the media interface, users that have added the song played on the media interface to a playlist, user preferences, music preferences, demographic information, prior interactions with the media interface, prior interactions with at least one of the displayed user images, user interactions with a social networking website, user interactions with a media application, and user interactions with a third-party website. 
     
     
         85 . The method of  claim 81 , wherein each user image is selected for display from the plurality of user images in response to previous user interaction with the music played on the media interface and connectivity with the user at the information source. 
     
     
         86 . The method of  claim 81 , wherein each user image is selected for display from the plurality of user images in response to previous user interaction with a particular music artist and connectivity with the user at the information source. 
     
     
         87 . The method of  claim 81 , wherein each user image is selected for display from the plurality of user images in response to currently listening to the particular music artist on the media interface and connectivity with the user at the information source. 
     
     
         88 . A method for facilitating connectivity between users, the method comprising:
 receiving music preferences from a user;   displaying a webpage having music-related content corresponding to the received music preferences;   receiving a plurality of user images from an information source, wherein each of the plurality of user images represents a member and has corresponding member information; and   simultaneously displaying one or more of the plurality of user images along with the music-related content on the webpage, wherein the one or more user images are selected for display based at least in part on previous user interaction with the displayed music-related content and connectivity with the user at the information source.   
     
     
         89 . The method of  claim 88 , wherein, in response to the user selecting one of the one or more user images, the user is provided with an opportunity to interact with that user associated with the selected user image. 
     
     
         90 . The method of  claim 88 , wherein each user image is selected for display from the plurality of user images based on at least one of: users that are currently viewing the music-related content, users that have previously viewed the music-related content, users that have interacted with the music-related content, users that have purchased a product associated with the music-related content, users that have purchased a service associated with the music-related content, users that have posted a review relating to the music-related content, user preferences, demographic information, user interactions with a social networking website, user interactions with a media application, and user interactions with a third-party website. 
     
     
         91 . The method of  claim 88 , wherein the information source is one of: a social networking service, an Internet dating service, and an Internet e-commerce service, an Internet search engine, an email service provider, an instant messaging service provider, and an Internet portal. 
     
     
         92 . The method of  claim 91 , wherein each user image is selected for display from the plurality of user images based on a member belonging to a social network associated with the user on a social networking website. 
     
     
         93 . The method of  claim 88 , further comprising displaying options for interacting with the member associated with the selected user image. 
     
     
         94 . The method of  claim 88 , further comprising displaying member information associated with the selected user image. 
     
     
         95 . A method for facilitating connectivity between users, the method comprising:
 receiving video preferences from a user;   displaying a webpage having video-related content corresponding to the received video preferences;   receiving a plurality of user images from an information source, wherein each of the plurality of user images represents a member and has corresponding member information; and   simultaneously displaying one or more of the plurality of user images along with the video-related content on the webpage, wherein the one or more user images are selected for display based at least in part on previous user interaction with the displayed video-related content and connectivity with the user at the information source.   
     
     
         96 . The method of  claim 95 , wherein, in response to the user selecting one of the one or more user images, the user is provided with an opportunity to interact with that user associated with the selected user image.

The method of  claim 95 , wherein each user image is selected for display from the plurality of user images based on at least one of: users that are currently viewing the video-related content, users that have previously viewed the video-related content, users that have interacted with the video-related content, users that have purchased a product associated with the video-related content, users that have purchased a service associated with the video-related content, users that have posted a review relating to the video-related content, user preferences, demographic information, user interactions with a social networking website, user interactions with a media application, and user interactions with a third-party website. 
     
     
         98 . The method of  claim 95 , wherein the information source is one of: a social networking service, an Internet dating service, and an Internet e-commerce service, an Internet search engine, an email service provider, an instant messaging service provider, and an Internet portal. 
     
     
         99 . The method of  claim 98 , wherein each user image is selected for display from the plurality of user images based on a member belonging to a social network associated with the user on a social networking website. 
     
     
         100 . The method of  claim 95 , further comprising displaying options for interacting with the member associated with the selected user image.
