Reverse Link Power Control
Abstract
This description describes examples of performing reverse link power control in a mobile network having a plurality of first modem devices that receive and transmit signals to wireless access terminals (ATs) and a second device in communication with the plurality of first devices. One of the first devices derives a first power control threshold (PCT) value for reverse link power of one of the access terminals (ATs) and the second device derives a second power control threshold (PCT) value for reverse link power of the one of the ATs. The second power control threshold (PCT) value is transmitted using a data traffic path and either the first PCT value or the second PCT value is selected.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A method of performing reverse link power control in a mobile network having a plurality of first modem devices that receive and transmit signals to wireless access terminals (ATs) and a second device in communication with said plurality of first devices, said method comprising:
deriving, by one of said first devices, a first power control threshold (PCT) value for reverse link power of one of said access terminals (ATs); deriving, by said second device, a second power control threshold (PCT) value for reverse link power of said one of said ATs; transmitting said second power control threshold (PCT) value using a data traffic path; and selecting said first PCT value or said second PCT value.
2 . The method of claim 1 wherein transmitting comprises transmitting using User Datagram Protocol or Generic Route Encapsulation protocol.
3 . The method of claim 1 wherein transmitting comprises transmitting said second power control threshold (PCT) value based on a state of a connection.
4 . The method of claim 3 wherein said state of said connection comprises said connection in soft handoff.
5 . The method of claim 1 wherein said second PCT value is selected when said second PCT value is received at said one of said first devices.
6 . The method of claim 1 wherein said first PCT value is selected when a connection is not in handoff or a connection is in softer handoff.
7 . The method of claim 1 wherein said second PCT value is selected when a connection is in soft handoff.
8 . The method of claim 1 further comprising:
generating, by said one of said first devices, an indicator representing quality of a signal received from said one of said ATs, and
calculating said first PCT and said second PCT using said indicator.
9 . The method of claim 1 further comprising:
preventing transmission of a packet from said one of said first devices to said second device if said packet is associated with a bad indication; and
transmitting said bad indication to said second device.
10 . The method of claim 1 further comprising determining good or bad indication of a packet using a cyclic redundancy code (CRC) associated with said packet.
11 . The method of claim 1 further comprising communicating between said first devices and said second device using Internet Protocol (IP) or asynchronous transfer mode (ATM).
12 . A system for performing reverse link power control, said system comprising:
a first modem device that receives and transmits signals to a wireless access terminal (AT), said first device configured to derive a first power control threshold (PCT) value for reverse link power of an AT; and a second device in communication with said first device over a network, said second device configured to derive a second power control threshold (PCT) value for reverse link power of said AT and to transmit said second power control threshold (PCT) value to said first device using a data traffic path.
13 . The system of claim 12 wherein the first device is further configured to transmit said second power control threshold (PCT) value to said first device over said data traffic path using User Datagram Protocol or Generic Route Encapsulation protocol.
14 . The system of claim 12 wherein the first device is further configured to select said first PCT value or said second PCT value.

22 . A computer program product, tangibly embodied in an information carrier, for performing reverse link power control in a mobile network having a plurality of first modem devices that receive and transmit signals to wireless access terminals (ATs) and a second device in communication with said plurality of first devices, the computer program product including instructions being operable to cause data processing apparatus to:
derive, by one of said first devices, a first power control threshold (PCT) value for reverse link power of one of said access terminals (ATs); derive, by said second device, a second power control threshold (PCT) value for reverse link power of said one of said ATs; transmit said second power control threshold (PCT) value using a data traffic path; and select said first PCT value or said second PCT value.
23 . The computer program product of claim 22 further comprising instructions operable to cause the data processing apparatus to transmit using User Datagram Protocol or Generic Route Encapsulation protocol.
24 . The computer program product of claim 22 further comprising instructions operable to cause the data processing apparatus to select said second PCT value when said second PCT value is received at said one of said first devices.
25 . The computer program product of claim 22 further comprising instructions operable to cause the data processing apparatus to select said first PCT value when a connection is not in handoff or a connection is in softer handoff.
26 . The computer program product of claim 22 further comprising instructions operable to cause the data processing apparatus to select said second PCT value when a connection is in soft handoff.
27 . The computer program product of claim 22 further comprising instructions operable to cause the data processing apparatus to:
generate, by said one of said first devices, an indicator representing quality of a signal received from said one of said ATs, and
calculate said first PCT and said second PCT using said indicator.
