Data duplication control method
Abstract
When there is a change in a group of volumes managed by a host computer, data duplication processing is immediately carried out against the changed volume. The host computer includes a volume-managing portion, a data duplication-controlling portion which executes the data duplication of data stored in a volume in a main data center, and a data duplication storing portion which stores data necessary for the data duplication. The data duplication-controlling portion compares data held by the volume-managing portion with the data in the data duplication storing portion, and updates the data in the data duplication storing portion based on the data held by the volume-managing portion.

at least one first storage subsystem including first volumes; at least one second storage subsystem including second volumes, coupled to the at least one first storage subsystem; and a host computer accessing certain first volumes among the first volumes, being configured to; (A) manage a volume group including the certain first volumes; (B) determine the volume group in which data of the certain first volumes are to be copied; (C) select two or more of the second volumes to which the data of the certain first volumes are to be copied, wherein a capacity of each of the selected second volume is equal or larger to a capacity of corresponding one of the certain first volumes; and (D) display the identifier of the each of the selected second volumes and the corresponding one of the certain first volumes, for each of the selected second volumes.
2 . A computer system according to claim 1 ,
wherein the selected second volume are selected in the (C) by a duplication condition whether or not all of the selected second volume are included in one of the at least second storage subsystem.
3 . A computer system according to claim 2 ,
wherein the at least one first storage subsystem and the at least one second storage subsystem copy the data of the certain first volumes by remote copy.
4 . A computer system according to claim 3 ,
wherein the identifiers displayed are VOLSERs managed by the host computer, which is different to identifier managed by the at least one first storage subsystem.
5 . A host computer comprising:
a communication unit to be coupled to at least one first storage subsystem; a memory; and a CPU, wherein the at least one first storage subsystem includes first volumes, and is coupled to at least one second storage subsystem including second volumes, wherein the CPU is configured to: (A) store group information indicating that a volume group includes a certain first volumes in the memory, wherein the certain first volumes are two or more of the first volumes; (B) determine the volume group in which data of the certain first volumes are to be copied; (C) select two or more of the second volumes to which the data of the certain first volumes are to be copied, based on the group information, wherein a capacity of each of the selected second volume is equal or larger to a capacity of corresponding one of the certain first volumes; and (D) display the identifier of the each of the selected second volumes and the corresponding one of the certain first volumes, for each of the selected second volumes.
6 . A host computer according to claim 5 ,
wherein the selected second volume are selected in the (C) by a duplication condition whether or not all of the selected second volume are included in one of the at least second storage subsystem.
7 . A host computer according to claim 6 ,
wherein the at least one first storage subsystem and the at least one second storage subsystem copy the data of the certain first volumes by remote copy.

9 . A computer readable media storing a computer program for a host computer to be coupled to at least one first storage subsystem,
wherein the at least one first storage subsystem includes first volumes, and is coupled to at least one second storage subsystem including second volumes, wherein the computer program comprises: (A) a code for the host computer to store group information indicating that a volume group includes a certain first volumes in the memory of the host computer, wherein the certain first volumes are two or more of the first volumes; (B) a code for the host computer to determine the volume group in which data of the certain first volumes are to be copied; (C) a code for the host computer to select two or more of the second volumes to which the data of the certain first volumes are to be copied, based on the group information, wherein a capacity of each of the selected second volume is equal or larger to a capacity of corresponding one of the certain first volumes; and (D) a code for the host computer to display the identifier of the each of the selected second volumes and the corresponding one of the certain first volumes, for each of the selected second volumes.
10 . A computer readable media according to claim 9 ,
wherein the selected second volume are selected in the (C) by a duplication condition whether or not all of the selected second volume are included in one of the at least second storage subsystem.
11 . A computer readable media according to claim 10 ,
wherein the at least one first storage subsystem and the at least one second storage subsystem copy the data of the certain first volumes by remote copy.
