Abstract

A hosel set for a golf club is provided that contains a plurality of hosels that can be used interchangeably and removably with one or more golf club heads to secure a shaft to the golf club heads. The hosels vary in length while maintaining the same weight. Mating, curved surfaces are provided on the hosel and the golf club head to facilitate ease of bending and to reduce binding and gapping between the hosel and the golf club head.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . An elongated cylinder set for a golf club, the elongated cylinder set comprising: at least two elongated cylinders, each elongated cylinder comprising substantially the same weight as any other elongated cylinder in the elongated cylinder set, wherein each elongated cylinder is capable of being interchangeable with the other elongated cylinders, wherein said elongated cylinder is adapted to receive a shaft and attaches said shaft to the golf club head, and wherein each said elongated cylinder is longitudinally straight from end to end.

2 . The elongated cylinder set of claim 1 , wherein at least one of said elongated cylinder comprises at least one opening on its side wall to reduce the weight of said elongated cylinder.

3 . The elongated cylinder set of claim 1 , wherein each elongated cylinder is attached to the shaft by an adhesive.

4 . The elongated cylinder set of claim 3 , wherein each of said elongated cylinders has a unique length greater than about 0.5 inch and less than about 8 inches.

5 . The elongated cylinder set of claim 4 , wherein said unique length of each of said elongated cylinders is greater than about 4 inches and less than about 8 inches.

6 . The elongated cylinder set of claim 5 , wherein each of said elongated cylinders is bendable.

         7 . A golf club head comprising:
a striking face located at a frontal portion of said golf club head; a body connected to an aft portion of said striking face; and an elongated cylinder connected to a top surface of said body, near said striking face, adapted to be connected to a golf club shaft; said elongated cylinder having a inner diameter, an outer diameter, and a total length, said inner diameter is substantially similar to an outer diameter of a tip end of said golf club shaft; said total length of said elongated cylinder is greater than about 0.5 inches and less than about 8 inches; wherein said elongated cylinder alters a flexibility of said tip end of said shaft.

8 . The golf club head of claim 7 , wherein said total length of said elongated cylinder is greater than about 4 inches and less than about 8 inches.

9 . The golf club head of claim 7 , wherein said elongated cylinder reduced an overall weight of said golf club head by about 5.5 grams and about 13.3 grams.

10 . The golf club head of claim 9 , wherein said elongated cylinder comprises at least one opening on its side wall to reduce said overall weight of said elongated cylinder.

11 . The golf club head of claim 11 , wherein said elongated cylinder is longitudinally straight from end to end.

12 . The golf club head of claim 7 , wherein said elongated cylinder decreases said flexibility of said tip end of said shaft.

13 . The golf club head of claim 7 , wherein said outer diameter of said elongated hosel is about 0.5 inches.

14 . The golf club head of claim 13 , wherein said inner diameter of said elongated hosel is about 0.37 inches.

15 . The golf club head of claim 7 , wherein said elongated hosel decreases an amount of droop by increasing a droop angle of said golf club head.

16 . The golf club head of claim 7 , wherein said elongated hosel lowers an effective loft angle of said golf club head at impact.

         17 . A golf club head comprising:
a striking face located at a frontal portion of said golf club head; a body connected to an aft portion of said striking face; and a hosel connected to a top surface of said body, near said striking face, adapted to be connected to a golf club shaft; and an elongated cylinder having a inner diameter, an outer diameter, and a total length, connected to an upper portion of said hosel, said inner diameter is substantially similar to an outer diameter of a tip end of said golf club shaft; and said elongated cylinder alters the flexibility of said tip end of said shaft.

18 . The golf club head of claim 17 , wherein said elongated cylinder increases the stiffness at said tip end of said shaft.

19 . The golf club head of claim 18 , wherein said total length of said elongated cylinder is greater than about 4 inches and less than about 8 inches.

20 . The golf club head of claim 19 , wherein said elongated cylinder comprises at least one opening on its side wall to reduce the weight of the cylinder.
