Abstract

Pixel interleaving configurations for use in high definition electronic sign displays where each and every scan line includes full red, green, and blue color representation to provide for high resolution electronic video sign displays.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . An electronic display comprising:
a plurality of alternating even and odd lines of LED groupings, with each LED grouping including a red LED, a green LED, and a blue LED successively arranged in any order, wherein the even lines in the plurality of alternating lines of LED groupings are offset from the odd lines in the plurality of alternating lines of LED groupings.

2 . The electronic display of claim 1 , wherein each intermediate LED grouping in the even numbered lines is positioned between an adjacent pair of LED groupings in the odd numbered lines.

3 . The electronic display of claim 1 , wherein portions of adjacent alternating lines of LED groupings combine to form an electronically scannable line.

4 . The electronic display of claim 3 , wherein the number of electronically scannable lines and the number of LED groupings in each electronically scannable line is sufficient to provide a predetermined display area.

5 . The electronic display of claim 3 , wherein the plurality of electronically scannable lines including LED groupings are positioned and supported on a circuit board.

6 . The electronic display of claim 1 , wherein the electronic display is configured such that each individual LED of the electronic display is individually controlled.

7 . The electronic display of claim 6 , wherein the electronic display is configured such that individual red LEDs, green LEDs, and blue LEDs of two or more different LED groupings are grouped together in real time to form a separate LED grouping.

8 . The electronic display of claim 1 , wherein the red LED, the green LED, and the blue LED in each LED grouping are spaced from, and in vertical alignment with, one another.

         9 . (canceled)

10 . The electronic display of claim 1 , wherein portions of adjacent alternating lines of LED groupings combine to form an electronically scannable line, wherein each successive scannable line, of a plurality of electronically scannable lines, is spaced below a preceding scannable line.

11 . The electronic display of claim 10 , wherein each successive scannable line is interleaved with its preceding scannable line.

12 . The electronic display of claim 11 , wherein the interleaved arrangement substantially prevents side angle color shift.

13 . An electronic display comprising:
a plurality of lines including LED groupings, the plurality of lines including alternately even numbered lines and odd numbered lines, each LED grouping having one red LED, one green LED, and one blue LED associated therewith, each even numbered line having a plurality of LED groupings therein, each odd numbered line having a plurality of LED groupings therein, each alternate odd numbered line offset relative to an even numbered line, with each intermediate LED grouping in the odd numbered line being positioned between two adjacently-spaced LED groupings in the even numbered line.

14 . The electronic display of claim 13 , wherein portions of adjacent alternating lines of LED groupings combine to form an electronically scannable line.

15 . The electronic display of claim 14 , wherein the number of electrically scannable lines and the number of LED groupings in each electronically scannable line is sufficient to provide a predetermined display area.

16 . The electronic display of claim 13 , wherein the plurality of LED groupings are positioned and supported on a circuit board, and wherein the one red LED, the one green LED, and the one blue LED in each LED grouping are serially arranged in any order.

17 . The electronic display of claim 16 , wherein the one red LED, the one green LED, and the one blue LED in each LED grouping are spaced from, and in vertical alignment with, one another.

         18 . A method comprising:
providing or obtaining an electronic display including a plurality of alternating lines of LED groupings, with each LED grouping including a red LED, a green LED, and a blue LED consecutively arranged in any order, wherein the even lines in the plurality of alternating lines of LED groupings are offset from the odd lines in the plurality of alternating lines of LED groupings; and operating the LED groupings to provide a display.

19 . The method of claim 18 , wherein each individual LED of the electronic display is individually controlled.

20 . The method of claim 19 , wherein individual red LEDs, green LEDs, and blue LEDs of two or more different LED groupings are grouped together in real time to form a separate LED grouping.

21 . The electronic display of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of alternating even and odd lines of LED groupings includes a plurality of alternating even and odd columns of LED groupings.

22 . The electronic display of claim 21 , wherein the even columns in the plurality of alternating columns of LED groupings are vertically offset from the odd columns in the plurality of alternating columns of LED groupings.

23 . The electronic display of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of alternating even and odd lines of LED groupings includes a plurality of alternating even and odd rows of LED groupings.

24 . The electronic display of claim 23 , wherein the even rows in the plurality of alternating rows of LED groupings are horizontally offset from the odd rows in the plurality of alternating rows of LED groupings.
