Abstract

There is described a multi-layer film. The film comprises a first biodegradable layer, a second biodegradable layer and a metallised layer. Also described is a multi-layer film comprising a first cellulose layer, a second cellulose layer, an adhesive layer between the first and second cellulose layer and a metallised layer.

         12 . A multi-layer film, comprising:
 a first biodegradable layer;   a second biodegradable layer; and   a metallised layer.   
     
     
         13 . The multi-layer film of  claim 12 , wherein the first and second biodegradable layers each comprises a biopolymer selected from the group consisting of carbohydrates, polysaccharides, gums, proteins, colloids, polyorganic acids and mixtures thereof. 
     
     
         14 . The multi-layer film of  claim 13 , wherein said polyorganic acids include polylactic acid (PLA) and polygalactic acid (PGA). 
     
     
         15 . The multi-layer film of  claim 13 , wherein said polysaccharides include starch, cellulose, glycogen, hemi-cellulose, chitin, fructan inulin, lignin, pectic substances and polysaccharide derivatives. 
     
     
         16 . The multi-layer film of  claim 15 , wherein said polysaccharide derivatives include amino derivatives, ester derivatives, ether derivatives and oxidised derivatives of polysaccharide. 
     
     
         17 . The multi-layer film of  claim 12 , wherein said first and said second biodegradable layer comprise PLA. 
     
     
         18 . The multi-layer film of  claim 12 , wherein said first and said second biodegradable layer comprise cellulose. 
     
     
         19 . The multi-layer film of  claim 18 , wherein said cellulose is regenerated cellulose. 
     
     
         20 . The multi-layer film of  claim 12 , further comprising an adhesive layer. 
     
     
         21 . The multi-layer film of  claim 20 , wherein said adhesive layer comprises an adhesive dispersed in an aqueous medium. 
     
     
         22 . The multi-layer film of  claim 20 , further comprising a printable coating. 
     
     
         23 . The multi-layer film of  claim 22 , further comprising an ink layer printed on said printable coating. 
     
     
         24 . The multi-layer film of  claim 23 , wherein said ink layer is in contact with said adhesive layer. 
     
     
         25 . The multi-layer film of  claim 23 , wherein said ink layer and said adhesive layer are separated by said first biodegradable layer or said second biodegradable layer, or both. 
     
     
         26 . A multi-layer film, comprising:
 a first cellulose layer;   a second cellulose layer;   an adhesive layer between said first and said second cellulose layer; and   a metallised layer.   
     
     
         27 . The multi-layer film of  claim 26 , further comprising a printable coating. 
     
     
         28 . The multi-layer film of  claim 27 , further comprising an ink layer printed on said printable coating, wherein said adhesive layer is in direct contact with said ink layer. 
     
     
         29 . The multi-layer film of  claim 27 , further comprising an ink layer printed on said printable coating, wherein said adhesive layer is not in direct contact with said ink layer. 
     
     
         30 . The multi-layer film of  claim 27 , wherein said adhesive layer and said printable coating are located on opposite surfaces of said first or said second biodegradable layer. 
     
     
         31 . The multi-layer film of  claim 26 , wherein said metallised layer and said adhesive layer are on the same side of said first or said second biodegradable layer.
