Abstract
Use of a compound having the formula (I) in the manufacture of a medicament for the prevention or treatment of a disease caused by oral bacteria in an animal wherein R1 is a straight or branched alkyl group containing 8 to 16 carbon atoms at the 2- or 3-position of the morpholiπo ring, and R2 is a straight or branched alkyl group containing 2 to 10 carbon atoms, substituted with a hydroxy group except in the alpha-position, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A method for preventing or treating a disease caused by oral bacteria in a non-human animal, wherein said method comprises administering to the animal a compound of formula (I):
wherein R 1 is a straight or branched alkyl group containing 8 to 16 carbon atoms at the 2- or 3-position of the morpholino ring, and R 2 is a straight or branched alkyl group containing 2 to 10 carbon atoms, substituted with a hydroxy group except in the alpha-position, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
2 . The method, according to claim 1 , wherein the sum of the carbon atoms in the groups R 1 and R 2 of the morpholino compound is at least 10.
3 . The method, according to claim 1 , wherein R 2 of the morpholino compound terminates with the hydroxy group.
4 . The method, according to claim 1 , wherein the morpholino compound is 3-(4-propyl-heptyl)-4-(2-hydroxyethyl)morpholine.
5 . The method, according to claim 1 , wherein the animal is a companion animal.
6 . The method, according to claim 5 , wherein the animal is a dog.
7 . The method, according to claim 5 , wherein the animal is a cat.
8 . The method, according to claim 1 , which further comprises administering an antimicrobial agent.
9 . The method, according to claim 1 , wherein the compound is administered in a formulation that further comprises a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient.
10 . The method, according to claim 1 , wherein the compound is administered in a formulation that further comprises an anti-inflammatory agent.
11 . The method, according to claim 1 , wherein the compound is administered in an aqueous formulation.
12 . The method, according to claim 1 , wherein the compound is administered in a formulation that is in the form of a toothpaste, gum or mouthwash.
13 . The method, according to claim 1 , wherein the compound of formula (I) prevents or removes plaque formation in the oral cavity.
14 . The method, according to claim 1 , wherein the compound of formula (I) prevents or treats gum disease.
15 . The method, according to claim 14 , wherein the gum disease is gingivitis or periodontitis.
16 . The method, according to claim 1 , wherein the disease is halitosis.
17 . The method, according to claim 16 , which reduces the level of Volatile Sulphur Compounds emitted from the oral cavity.
18 . A cosmetic method of preventing or decreasing oral staining in an animal, comprising the step of exposing the oral cavity to a morpholino compound of general formula (I);
wherein R 1 is a straight or branched alkyl group containing 8 to 16 carbon atoms at the 2- or 3-position of the morpholino ring, and R 2 is a straight or branched alkyl group containing 2 to 10 carbon atoms, substituted with a hydroxy group except in the alpha-position, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
19 . The cosmetic method according to claim 18 , wherein the teeth are whitened.
20 . The method according to claim 18 , wherein the staining is from dietary stains.
21 . The method according to claim 18 , additionally comprising brushing the oral cavity.
22 . The method according to claim 18 , wherein the animal is a companion animal.
23 . The method according to claim 22 , wherein the companion animal is a dog.
24 . The method according to claim 22 , wherein the companion animal is a cat.
25 . An animal chew comprising a compound of formula (I);
wherein R 1 is a straight or branched alkyl group containing 8 to 16 carbon atoms at the 2- or 3-position of the morpholino ring, and R 2 is a straight or branched alkyl group containing 2 to 10 carbon atoms, substituted with a hydroxy group except in the alpha-position, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
26 . The animal chew according to claim 25 , wherein the compound is infused into the chew.
27 . The animal chew according to claim 25 , wherein the chew comprises animal hide.
28 . The animal chew according to claim 25 , wherein the chew comprises a man-made material.
29 . The animal chew according to claim 25 , comprising at least one flavouring.
30 . The animal chew according to claim 25 designed for use by dogs.
31 . An animal foodstuff comprising a compound according to formula (I);
wherein R 1 is a straight or branched alkyl croup containing 8 to 16 carbon atoms at the 2- or 3-position of the morpholino ring, and R 2 is a straight or branched alkyl group containing 2 to 10 carbon atoms, substituted with a hydroxy group except in the alpha-position, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
32 . The animal foodstuff according to claim 31 , wherein the foodstuff is a biscuit.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
