Abstract
A mechanical arm comprises a forearm, a spring, and an upper arm disposed between the forearm and the spring, wherein the forearm applies a moment to the upper arm. A translation device associated with the upper arm translates a force associated with the moment to the spring. The spring is adapted to apply a counter-force resisting at least a portion of the moment to reduce a torque for urging the forearm.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . An adjustable stiffness spring comprising:
a cable adapted to be connected to a load; a constant torque mechanism; said cable connected to said constant torque mechanism; said constant torque mechanism including a spring with an adjustable spring constant; and a spring constant adjustment mechanism that when adjusted changes the spring constant of said spring.
