Abstract

A method for routing data over a telecommunications carrier network including at least two switching devices defining at least one physical link, the method including defining in advance a plurality of traffic flows, each associated with specific routing through at least one of the physical links in the network; configuring a routing system according to the traffic flows; collecting data of traffic transmitted over at least some of the traffic flows, calculating traffic statistics, from the collected data, for each of the flows in the network; and re-calculating the routing system configuration utilizing the calculated traffic statistics.

1 . A method implemented by a processor storing and executing non-transitory program instructions, the method comprising:
 for a network having a previous routing configuration including a logic link scheme, a routing scheme, and network parameters, receiving in a processor modified network parameters input by a user at a user interface or by network protocols;   determining in said processor a modified routing scheme having improved performance of the entire network according to a pre-defined criterion, triggered by the receiving of the modified network parameters, based on (i) traffic statistics calculated for the entire network according to the previous configuration and (ii) service level agreements for all traffic flows through the network.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the modified network parameters include a number of switches in the network, a number of ports on each added switch, an available bandwidth on each port, an identifier for each port, and a physical connection scheme of each switch. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the service level agreement of a flow includes at least one guaranteed bandwidth parameter for that flow selected from the group consisting of: a committed information rate (CIR), a peak information rate (PIR), and a maximum burst size (MBS). 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the received modified network parameters are input by a user at a user interface. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the received modified network parameters are input by network protocols.
