Abstract

A method and system for improving the quality of original metadata associated with media on a computer network, such as multimedia and streaming media, includes analyzing each field of the URL of the multimedia and streaming media. Each field is analyzed to identify new metadata associated with that field. Identified new metadata is added to the original metadata. In another embodiment, the fields in the URL are reorganized in reverse order and metadata associated with a prefix of fields of the reorganized URL is added to the original metadata. In yet another embodiment, the contents of the field next to the prefix of fields is used to improve the quality of the original metadata.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 - 21 . (canceled)

22 . A computer-implemented method for processing original metadata associated with a media file including a uniform resource indicator (URI), the method comprising:
maintaining, in a storage device, a database including original metadata associated with the media file; analyzing one or more fields of a plurality of fields included in the URI associated with the media file to determine if an association exists between the one or more analyzed fields and predetermined sets of metadata; identifying metadata that is associated with the one or more analyzed fields; and adding the identified metadata to the original metadata in the database.

23 . The method of claim 22 , further comprising:
reorganizing the plurality of fields to provide reorganized fields, wherein analyzing the one or more fields includes analyzing one or more of the reorganized fields.

24 . The method of claim 22 , further comprising:
reversing an order of the plurality of fields to provide reorganized fields, wherein analyzing the one or more fields includes analyzing one or more of the reorganized fields.

25 . The method of claim 22 , wherein analyzing the one or more fields includes analyzing the plurality of fields in contiguous field order until no associated metadata is identified for a field.

26 . The method of claim 22 , further comprising:
adding content to one or more of the plurality of fields when metadata that is associated with one or more of the analyzed fields is not identified.

27 . The method of claim 26 , further comprising:
replacing one or more connecting characters in the content with a space to provide a plurality of terms; and add the plurality of terms to the original metadata.

28 . The method of claim 22 , wherein the media file includes a streaming media file.

29 . The method of claim 22 , wherein the media file includes a streaming multimedia file.

30 . A computer-readable storage device storing a programmable instructions, which when executed on a processor, causes the processor to perform a method for processing original metadata associated with a media file including a uniform resource indicator (URI), the method comprising:
maintaining, in a storage device, a database including original metadata associated with the media file; analyzing one or more fields of a plurality of fields included in the URI associated with the media file to determine if an association exists between the one or more analyzed fields and predetermined sets of metadata; identifying metadata that is associated with the one or more analyzed fields; and adding the identified metadata to the original metadata in the database.

         31 . The computer-readable storage device of claim 30 , further comprising:
reorganizing the plurality of fields to provide reorganized fields, wherein analyzing the one or more fields includes analyzing one or more of the reorganized fields.

         32 . The computer-readable storage device of claim 30 , further comprising:
reversing an order of the plurality of fields to provide reorganized fields, wherein analyzing the one or more fields includes analyzing one or more of the reorganized fields.

33 . The computer-readable storage device of claim 30 , wherein analyzing the one or more fields includes analyzing the plurality of fields in contiguous field order until no associated metadata is identified for a field.

         34 . The computer-readable storage device of claim 30 , further comprising:
adding content to one or more of the plurality of fields when metadata that is associated with one or more of the analyzed fields is not identified.

         35 . The computer-readable storage device of claim 34 , further comprising:
replacing one or more connecting characters in the content with a space to provide a plurality of terms; and add the plurality of terms to the original metadata.

36 . The computer-readable storage device of claim 30 , wherein the media file includes a streaming media file.

37 . The computer-readable storage device of claim 30 , wherein the media file includes a streaming multimedia file.

38 . An apparatus for processing original metadata associated with a media file including a uniform resource indicator (URI) comprising:
a memory device storing instructions and maintaining a database including original metadata associated with the media file; a processor executing the instructions to:
 analyze one or more fields of plurality of fields included in the URI associated with the media file to determine if an association exists between the one or more analyzed fields and predetermined sets of metadata;
identify metadata that is associated with the one or more of analyzed fields; and
add the identified metadata to the original metadata in the database.

39 . The apparatus of claim 38 , wherein the media file includes a streaming media file.

40 . The apparatus of claim 38 , wherein the media file includes a streaming multimedia file.

41 . The apparatus of claim 38 , wherein analyzing the one or more fields includes analyzing the plurality of fields in contiguous field order until no associated metadata is identified for a field.
