Claims

Abstract

A skin treatment regimen for delivery of a rinse-off personal skin care composition is provided. The rinse-off personal skin care composition includes varying ratios of a lathering agent to a hydrophobic benefit agent. The rinse-off personal skin care composition can be applied to skin of a user in phases over and/or in a treatment cycle. Each of the phases of the treatment cycle can include a ratio of the varying ratios that can be different such as higher or lower than a ratio of adjacent phase.

1 . A skin treatment regimen for delivery of a rinse-off personal skin care composition, the regimen comprising:
 application of the composition to skin of a user in phases over a treatment cycle, wherein the composition comprises varying ratios of a lathering agent to a hydrophobic benefit agent, the treatment cycle comprising
 a first phase comprising a first ratio of the varying ratios, 
 an intermediate phase comprising a second ratio of the varying ratios that is lower than the first ratio, and 
 a final phase comprising a third ratio of the varying ratios that is higher than the intermediate phase. 
   
     
     
         2 . The regimen according to  claim 1 , wherein the composition is provided in a delivery article that contains sufficient composition for at least one treatment cycle, and wherein the delivery article is adapted to dispense the composition in discrete aliquots of approximately equal volume, and wherein aliquots of the composition are applied until the contents of the delivery article are substantially depleted. 
     
     
         3 . The regimen according to  claim 2 , wherein the composition is applied on a daily basis. 
     
     
         4 . The regimen according to  claim 2 , wherein the delivery article contains sufficient composition for two treatment cycles. 
     
     
         5 . The regimen according to  claim 1 , wherein the composition is applied through a treatment cycle in a time interval of about thirty days. 
     
     
         6 . The regimen according to  claim 5 , wherein the first phase of the treatment cycle is from about 3 to 7 days, the intermediate phase of the treatment cycle is from about 6 to 14 days, and the final phase of the treatment cycle is from about 6 to 14 days. 
     
     
         7 . The regimen according to  claim 6 , wherein the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is at a maximum of about 75:25 during the first phase, and the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is at a minimum of about 45:55 during the intermediate phase, and the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is at a maximum of about 75:25 during the final phase. 
     
     
         8 . The regimen according to  claim 5 , wherein the first phase of the treatment cycle is from about 2 to 5 days, the intermediate phase of the treatment cycle is from about 3 to 7 days, and the final phase of the treatment cycle is from about 14 to 21 days. 
     
     
         9 . The regimen according to  claim 8 , wherein the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is at a maximum of about 70:30 during the first phase, and the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is at a minimum of about 45:55 during the intermediate phase, and the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is at a maximum of about 80:20 during the final phase. 
     
     
         10 . The regimen according to  claim 5 , wherein the composition is applied through a treatment cycle in a time interval of about fifty days. 
     
     
         11 . The regimen according to  claim 10 , wherein the first phase of the treatment cycle is from about 3 to 7 days, the intermediate phase of the treatment cycle is from about 10 to 28 days, and the final phase of the treatment cycle is from about 14 to 20 days. 
     
     
         12 . The regimen according to  claim 11 , wherein the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is at a maximum of about 75:25 during the first phase, and the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is at a minimum of about 45:55 during the intermediate phase, and the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is at a maximum of about 75:25 during the final phase. 
     
     
         13 . The regimen according to  claim 5 , wherein the composition is applied through a treatment cycle in a time interval of about fifty-six days. 
     
     
         14 . The regimen according to  claim 13 , wherein the first phase of the treatment cycle is from about 2 to 7 days, the intermediate phase of the treatment cycle is from about 3 to 28 days, and the final phase of the treatment cycle is from about 6 to 21 days. 
     
     
         15 . The regimen according to  claim 1 , wherein the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is at a maximum in the range from about 50:50 to 90:10 during the first phase, and the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is at a minimum in the range from about 10:90 to 50:50 during the intermediate phase, and the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is at a maximum in the range from about 50:50 to 90:10 during the final phase. 
     
     
         16 . The regimen according to  claim 1 , wherein the delivery article is adapted to deliver composition formulated to match a population profile, wherein the profile reflects preferences in a population for composition properties selected from maximum hydrophobic benefit agent content, lathering, scent, color, opalescence, thickness, and combinations of these. 
     
     
         17 . The regimen according to  claim 16 , wherein the user is a member of the population matching the population profile of the composition in the delivery article. 
     
     
         18 . The regimen according to  claim 1 , wherein the formulation comprises one or more additional benefit agents. 
     
     
         19 . The regimen according to  claim 18 , wherein the one or more additional benefit agents is applied substantially with either or both the lathering agent and the hydrophobic benefit agent. 
     
     
         20 . The regimen according to  claim 18 , wherein the one or more additional benefit agents selected from vitamins, vitamin derivatives, sunscreens, desquamation actives, anti-wrinkle actives, anti-atrophy actives, anti-oxidants, skin soothing agents, skin healing agents, skin lightening agents, skin tanning agents, anti-acne medicaments, essential oils, sensates, pigments, colorants, pearlescent agents, interference pigments, particles, hydrophobically modified non-platelet particles and combinations thereof. 
     
     
         21 . The regimen according to  claim 1 , wherein the formulation comprises a scent agent. 
     
     
         22 . The regimen according to  claim 21 , wherein the scent agent is applied substantially with the lathering agent. 
     
     
         23 . The regimen according to  claim 1 , wherein the formulation comprises an exfoliating agent. 
     
     
         24 . The regimen according to  claim 23 , wherein the exfoliating agent is applied substantially with the lathering agent. 
     
     
         25 . The regimen according to  claim 1 , wherein the composition is applied in a single delivery article containing sufficient quantity of the composition for at least one treatment cycle. 
     
     
         26 . The regimen according to  claim 25 , wherein the ratios of the lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent in the composition vary as a function of containment location in the single delivery article. 
     
     
         27 . The regimen according to  claim 25 , wherein the composition is contained within discrete zones of the delivery article and wherein ratios of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent are different in each zone. 
     
     
         28 . The regimen according to  claim 27 , wherein the discrete zones are physically separated chambers defined in the delivery article. 
     
     
         29 . The regimen according to  claim 25 , wherein the ratios of the lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent in the composition vary continuously from the first phase through the final phase. 
     
     
         30 . The regimen according to  claim 1 , wherein the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is at a maximum of about 75:25 during the first phase, and the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is at a minimum of about 45:55 during the intermediate phase, and the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is at a maximum of about 75:25 during the final phase. 
     
     
         31 . The regimen according to  claim 1 , wherein the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is at a maximum of about 70:30 during the first phase, and the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is at a minimum of about 45:55 during the intermediate phase, and the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is at a maximum of about 80:20 during the final phase. 
     
     
         32 . The regimen according to  claim 1 , wherein the lather volume of the composition is greater than 800 ml to 1500 ml by the cylinder lather method. 
     
     
         33 . The regimen according to  claim 1 , wherein the lather volume of the composition is greater than 800 ml. 
     
     
         34 . The regimen according to  claim 1 , wherein the lather volume of the composition is greater than 1000 ml. 
     
     
         35 . A skin treatment regimen for delivery of a rinse-off personal skin care composition, the regimen comprising:
 application of the composition to skin of a user in a treatment cycle, wherein the composition comprises varying ratios of a hydrophobic benefit agent to lathering agent, the treatment cycle comprising:
 a first phase wherein the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is high, 
 an intermediate phase wherein the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is low, and 
 a final phase wherein the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is high. 
   
     
     
         36 . A skin treatment regimen for delivery of a rinse-off personal skin care composition, the regimen comprising:
 application of the composition to skin of a user in phases over a treatment cycle, wherein the composition comprises varying ratios of a lathering agent to a hydrophobic benefit agent, the treatment cycle comprising
 a first phase wherein the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is high, 
 an intermediate phase wherein the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is low, and 
 a final phase wherein the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is high. 
   
     
     
         37 . A regimen for sustaining consumer use of a cosmetic treatment for skin, the regimen comprising:
 application of the composition to a user's skin in a treatment cycle, wherein the composition is a rinse-off personal skin care composition formulated to comprise varying ratios of an hydrophobic benefit agent to a lathering agent, the treatment cycle comprising
 a first phase wherein the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is high and provides a relatively appealing sensation to the consumer, 
 an intermediate phase wherein the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is low and provides a relatively less appealing sensation to the consumer, and 
 a final phase wherein the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is high and provides a relatively appealing sensation to the consumer. 
   
     
     
         38 . The regimen according to  claim 37 , wherein the composition is provided in a delivery article that contains sufficient composition for at least one treatment cycle, and wherein the delivery article is adapted to dispense the composition in discrete aliquots of approximately equal volume, and wherein aliquots of the composition are applied until the contents of the delivery article are substantially depleted. 
     
     
         39 . The regimen according to  claim 38 , wherein the composition is applied on a daily basis. 
     
     
         40 . The regimen according to  claim 38 , wherein the delivery article contains sufficient composition for two treatment cycles. 
     
     
         41 . The regimen according to  claim 37 , wherein the composition is applied through a treatment cycle in a time interval of about thirty days.

         44 . The regimen according to  claim 37 , wherein the first phase of the treatment cycle is from about 2 to 5 days, the intermediate phase of the treatment cycle is from about 3 to 7 days, and the final phase of the treatment cycle is from about 14 to 21 days.

The regimen according to  claim 44 , wherein the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is at a maximum of about 70:30 during the first phase, and the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is at a minimum of about 45:55 during the intermediate phase, and the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is at a maximum of about 80:20 during the final phase. 
     
     
         46 . The regimen according to  claim 37 , wherein the composition is applied through a treatment cycle in a time interval of about fifty days. 
     
     
         47 . The regimen according to  claim 46 , wherein the first phase of the treatment cycle is from about 3 to 7 days, the intermediate phase of the treatment cycle is from about 10 to 28 days, and the final phase of the treatment cycle is from about 14 to 20 days.

The regimen according to  claim 47 , wherein the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is at a maximum of about 75:25 during the first phase, and the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is at a minimum of about 45:55 during the intermediate phase, and the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is at a maximum of about 75:25 during the final phase. 
     
     
         49 . The regimen according to  claim 41 , wherein the composition is applied through a treatment cycle in a time interval of about fifty-six days. 
     
     
         50 . The regimen according to  claim 49 , wherein the first phase of the treatment cycle is from about 2 to 7 days, the intermediate phase of the treatment cycle is from about 3 to 28 days, and the final phase of the treatment cycle is from about 6 to 21 days.

The regimen according to  claim 37 , wherein the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is at a maximum in the range from about 50:50 to 90:10 during the first phase, and the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is at a minimum in the range from about 10:90 to 50:50 during the intermediate phase, and the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is at a maximum in the range from about 50:50 to 90:10 during the final phase.

The regimen according to  claim 37 , wherein the delivery article is adapted to deliver composition formulated to match a population profile, wherein the profile reflects preferences in a population for composition properties selected from maximum hydrophobic benefit agent content, lathering, scent, color, opalescence, thickness, and combinations thereof. 
     
     
         53 . The regimen according to  claim 52 , wherein the user is a member of the population matching the population profile of the composition in the delivery article. 
     
     
         54 . The regimen according to  claim 37 , wherein the formulation comprises one or more additional benefit agents.

         71 . A regimen for skin cleansing and conditioning, comprising:
 dispensing from a personal care article a personal care composition that comprises a lathering agent and a hydrophobic benefit agent, wherein the article operates to dispense the composition in aliquots, and wherein the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent varies in successively dispensed aliquots of the composition over the course of dispensing the article contents such that the amount of hydrophobic benefit agent in two or more successive aliquots is different, and   applying a first aliquot of the personal care composition to a user's skin together with water, wherein the lathering agent provides lather when contacted on the user's skin with water and   rinsing the personal care composition from the user's skin, wherein a portion of the hydrophobic benefit agent is deposited and remains on the user's skin after rinsing.   
     
     
         72 . The regimen according to  claim 71 , wherein the regimen is repeated by dispensing, applying and rinsing successive aliquots of the composition until the article is substantially depleted of its contents. 
     
     
         73 . The regimen according to  claim 72 , wherein the regimen is repeated on a daily basis. 
     
     
         74 . The regimen according to  claim 73 , wherein the regimen is repeated for about thirty days. 
     
     
         75 . The regimen according to  claim 71 , wherein each aliquot has the same approximate volume.

 applying the composition to a user's skin on a daily basis for a period of days, wherein the composition is a rinse-off personal skin care composition comprising a hydrophobic benefit agent and a lathering agent, and wherein the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent varies over the period of application, the period of days of application comprising, in any order:
 a premium experience phase wherein the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is high, the premium experience phase characterized by maximal delivery of lather and scent, and 
 a conditioning phase wherein the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is low, the conditioning phase characterized by maximal hydrophobic benefit agent deposition. 
   
     
     
         85 . The regimen according to  claim 84 , wherein the sequence of the phases is the premium experience phase followed by the conditioning phase. 
     
     
         86 . The regimen according to  claim 84 , wherein the sequence of the phases is the conditioning phase followed by the premium experience phase. 
     
     
         87 . The regimen according to  claim 84 , comprising three phases, wherein the sequence of the phases is a premium experience phase, followed by a conditioning phase, followed by a premium experience phase.

The regimen according to  claim 84 , wherein the quality of the users skin after the conditioning phase exhibits improvement sufficient to be detected by measurement of one or more of reduction of visual dryness, reduction in trans-epidermal water loss, increased skin hydration, increased elastic extension, increased elastic recovery, increased firmness, reduction in total protein, increase in the amount of one or more of Keratin 1, Keratin 10 and Keratin 11, and decrease in cytokine expression. 
     
     
         89 . The regimen according to  claim 84 , wherein the quality of the users skin is maintained through the premium experience and conditioning phases as evidenced by no measurable variation in the properties of visual dryness, trans-epidermal water loss, skin hydration, elastic extension, elastic recovery, firmness, total protein, the amount of one or more of Keratin 1, Keratin 10 and Keratin 11, and cytokine expression as compared with normal healthy control skin. 
     
     
         90 . The regimen according to  claim 87 , wherein the composition is applied through a application period of about thirty days. 
     
     
         91 . The regimen according to  claim 90 , wherein the composition is provided in a delivery article that contains sufficient composition for the application period, and wherein the delivery article is adapted to dispense the composition in discrete aliquots of approximately equal volume, and wherein aliquots of the composition are applied until the contents of the delivery article are substantially depleted. 
     
     
         92 . The regimen according to  claim 84 , wherein the lather volume of the composition is greater than 800 ml to 1500 ml by the cylinder lather regimen. 
     
     
         93 . The regimen according to  claim 84 , wherein the lather volume of the composition is greater than 800 ml.

The regimen according to  claim 87 , wherein the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is at a maximum of about 75:25 in the first phase, and the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is at a minimum of about 45:55 in the second phase, and the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is at a maximum of about 75:25 in the third phase.

The regimen according to  claim 87 , wherein the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is at a maximum in the range from about 50:50 to 90:10 in the first phase, and the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is at a minimum in the range from about 10:90 to 50:50 in the second phase, and the ratio of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent is at a maximum in the range from about 50:50 to 90:10 in the third phase. 
     
     
         101 . A skin treatment regimen for delivery of a rinse-off personal skin care composition, the regimen comprising:
 providing the composition to a user in discreet aliquots of approximately equal volume; wherein the composition is formulated to comprise varying ratios of lathering agent to hydrophobic benefit agent;   applying the provided composition to skin of the user in a treatment cycle comprising at least a first phase during which the composition comprises a first of the varying ratios, and a second phase during which the composition comprises a second of the varying ratios, the second ratio lower than the first ratio.
