Abstract

A oral care composition comprising a triple polymer system and a source of fluoride ions for combating (i.e. helping to prevent, inhibit and/or treat) dental erosion and/or tooth wear is described. Such compositions are also of use in combating dental caries.

1 . An oral care composition comprising a source of fluoride ions and a triple polymer system consisting of xanthan gum, carboxymethyl cellulose and copovidone for use in combating dental erosion and/or tooth wear. 
     
     
         2 . A composition according to  claim 1  wherein the source of fluoride ions is an alkali metal fluoride. 
     
     
         3 . A composition according to  claim 1  wherein the xanthan gum is present in an amount of 0.001 to 1.0% by weight of the total composition. 
     
     
         4 . A composition according to  claim 1  wherein the carboxymethyl cellulose is present in an amount of 0.02 to 20% by weight of the total composition. 
     
     
         5 . A composition according to  claim 1  wherein the copovidone is present in an amount of 0.1 to 20% by weight of the total composition. 
     
     
         6 . A composition according to  claim 1  comprising a desensitizing agent. 
     
     
         7 . A composition according to  claim 6  wherein the desensitising agent is a strontium salt or a potassium salt. 
     
     
         8 . A composition according to  claim 1  which is a mouthwash composition. 
     
     
         9 . A mouthwash composition according to  claim 8  for use on a daily basis together with a fluoride toothpaste in an oral care regimen for combating dental erosion and/or toothwear. 
     
     
         10 . An oral care kit for combating dental erosion and/or tooth wear comprising a mouthwash composition according to  claim 8 , a fluoride toothpaste, and instructions for their use in an oral care regimen.
