Abstract

Each of a first portion and a second portion of data is selected. Each of the first portion and the second portion of data are in the human-readable format and capable of being converted from a human-readable format to an electronically readable format. The first portion of data is encrypted and stored in a first electronically readable medium and the second portion of data is encrypted and stored in a second electronically readable medium, wherein the first electronically readable medium does not match with the second electronically readable medium. Each of the first portion and the second electronically readable medium is incorporated into the printed publication. The first portion of data is read from the first electronically readable medium using a first data reading device without removing the first electronically readable medium from the printed publication. The second portion of data is read from the second electronically readable medium using a second data reading device without removing the second electronically readable medium from the printed publication.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A method, comprising:
 selecting a first portion of data in the human-readable format within a printed financial prospectus, the first portion of data being capable of being stored on a first electronically readable medium; encrypting the first portion of data; storing the encrypted first portion of data on the first electronically readable medium; incorporating the first electronically readable medium into the printed financial prospectus; and reading the encrypted first portion of data from the first electronically readable medium using a first data reading device without removing said electronically readable medium from the printed financial prospectus.

         2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
 after reading the encrypted first portion of data, decrypting the encrypted first portion of data.

         3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein storing the encrypted first portion of data comprises:
 storing the encrypted first portion of data in a summary format on at least one of:
 an optical bar code;
 a magnetic strip; and
 an embedded memory chip.

         4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein storing the encrypted first portion of data comprises:
 storing the encrypted first portion of data in a standardized format on at least one of:
 an optical bar code;
 a magnetic strip; and
 an embedded memory chip.

         5 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein:
 the printed financial prospectus comprises two or more of the following plurality of data types: security information, classification information, consolidated financial information, inventory information, dilution data, asset information, debt information, past performance information, management salary information, tax information, underwriter compensation information, and operations data; and the first portion of data comprises a first one of the plurality of data types.

         6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein incorporating the first electronically readable medium into the printed financial prospectus comprises:
 encapsulating the first electronically readable medium on a cover of the printed financial prospectus.

         7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein incorporating the first electronically readable medium into the printed financial prospectus comprises:
 affixing the first electronically readable media to the printed financial prospectus.

         8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
 selecting a second portion of data, wherein the printed financial prospectus comprises the second portion of data; storing the second portion of data on a second electronically readable medium, wherein the first electronically readable medium does not match the second electronically readable medium; and incorporating the second electronically readable medium into the printed financial prospectus.

         9 . The method of  claim 8 , wherein:
 the first portion of data comprises a first category of information associated with the printed financial prospectus; and the second portion of data comprises a second category of information associated with the printed financial prospectus, wherein the first category of information is different from the second category of information.

         10 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising:
 reading the second portion of data from the second electronically readable medium using a second data reading device without removing the second electronically readable medium from the printed financial prospectus.

         11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first electronically readable medium comprises an embedded memory chip.

         12 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the second electronically readable medium comprises a bar code.

         13 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first data reading device comprises the smart card reader.

         14 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the second data reading device comprises a bar code scanner.
