Abstract

Apparatuses, methods and computer-readable storage mediums are provided for calculating estimated addressing and bandwidth requirements of a customer domain, such as to facilitate designing the respective domain. A method includes selecting customer premises equipment (CPE) of a domain including a plurality of CPEs, where each CPE includes one or more devices, and one of the one or more devices include an interface with which the domain communicates with the respective CPE. The method also includes determining if the interface of the selected CPE comprises a router, and calculating an addressing requirement of the selected CPE, where the addressing requirement includes a number of device addresses for the selected CPE. The method may additionally or alternatively include analyzing traffic patterns of the selected CPE with respect to one or more other CPEs, and based on the analysis, calculating a bandwidth requirement of the selected CPE.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A method comprising:
analyzing a traffic pattern of one of a plurality of customer premises equipment (CPE) associated with a domain; and determining bandwidth requirement for the one CPE with respect to bandwidth requirements of the one or more other CPEs of the domain.

2 . The method according to claim 1 , further comprising:
determining bandwidth requirements for traffic flow from the one CPE to the one or more other CPEs.

3 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the determined bandwidth requirement relates to data link layer bandwidth.

4 . The method according to claim 1 , further comprising:
selecting the one CPE from the plurality of CPEs for analysis.

5 . The method according to claim 1 , further comprising:
determining an addressing requirement of the one CPE, the addressing requirement including a number of device addresses for the one CPE.

6 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the one CPE includes a plurality of devices, the method further comprising:
determining an addressing requirement of the one CPE, wherein the addressing requirement includes a number of device addresses for the one CPE.

7 . The method according to claim 6 , further comprising:
setting the addressing requirement to a predetermined value if the interface comprises a router, or summing a number of devices of the CPE and associated number of switches of the CPE.

8 . The method according to claim 6 , wherein the domain includes a given number of traffic flows for communicating between CPEs, the domain being allocated a block of addresses per a given number of traffic flows.

9 . The method according to claim 8 , further comprising:
determining a number of blocks of addresses for the domain based on the determined addressing requirement and a number of device addresses per block of addresses.

         10 . A apparatus comprising:
at least one processor; and at least one memory including computer program code for one or more programs, the at least one memory and the computer program code configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the apparatus to perform at least the following, analyze a traffic pattern of one of a plurality of customer premises equipment (CPE) associated with a domain, and determine bandwidth requirement for the one CPE with respect to bandwidth requirements of the one or more other CPEs of the domain.

11 . The apparatus according to claim 10 , wherein the apparatus is further caused to:
determine bandwidth requirements for traffic flow from the one CPE to the one or more other CPEs.

12 . The apparatus according to claim 10 , wherein the determined bandwidth requirement relates to data link layer bandwidth.

13 . The apparatus according to claim 10 , wherein the apparatus is further caused to:
select the one CPE from the plurality of CPEs for analysis.

14 . The apparatus according to claim 10 , wherein the apparatus is further caused to:
determine an addressing requirement of the one CPE, the addressing requirement including a number of device addresses for the one CPE.

15 . The apparatus according to claim 10 , wherein the one CPE includes a plurality of devices, and the apparatus is further caused to:
determine an addressing requirement of the one CPE, wherein the addressing requirement includes a number of device addresses for the one CPE.

16 . The apparatus according to claim 15 , wherein the apparatus is further caused to:
set the addressing requirement to a predetermined value if the interface comprises a router, or sum a number of devices of the CPE and associated number of switches of the CPE.

17 . The apparatus according to claim 15 , wherein the domain includes a given number of traffic flows for communicating between CPEs, the domain being allocated a block of addresses per a given number of traffic flows.

18 . The apparatus according to claim 17 , wherein the apparatus is further caused to:
determine a number of blocks of addresses for the domain based on the determined addressing requirement and a number of device addresses per block of addresses.

         19 . A system comprising:
a building aggregation system coupled to a plurality of customer premises equipment (CPE) associated with a domain, and configured to analyze a traffic pattern of one of the plurality of CPEs, wherein the building aggregation system is further configured to determine bandwidth requirement for the one CPE with respect to bandwidth requirements of the one or more other CPEs of the domain.

20 . The system according to claim 19 , wherein the building aggregation system is further configured to determine bandwidth requirements for traffic flow from the one CPE to the one or more other CPEs.
