Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 - 15 . (canceled)

16 . A method of assessing a subject's cancer prognosis, the method comprising:
obtaining a biological sample from the subject, and determining the presence of a gene encoding a polypeptide containing SEQ ID NO: 1 in the biological sample, wherein the subject is determined to have a good prognosis if the gene is present on both chromosomes or to have a poor prognosis if the gene is missing from one of the chromosomes.

17 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the biological sample is a tumor biopsy sample, a blood sample, a urine sample, or a stool sample.

18 . A method of assessing a subject's cancer prognosis, the method comprising:
obtaining a biological sample from the subject; and determining the expression level of a gene encoding a polypeptide containing SEQ ID NO: 1 in the biological sample,
wherein the subject is determined to have a good prognosis if the expression level increases after a cancer treatment or to have a poor prognosis if the expression level fails to increase after the cancer treatment.

19 . The method of claim 18 , wherein the method further comprises contacting the biological sample with a chemotherapeutical agent prior to determining the express level of a gene encoding a polypeptide containing SEQ ID NO: 1 in the sample.

20 . The method of claim 18 , wherein the biological sample is a tumor biopsy sample, a blood sample, a urine sample, or a stool sample.

         21 - 31 . (canceled)

32 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the biological sample is a blood sample.

33 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the biological sample is a tumor biopsy sample.

34 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the biological sample is a urine sample.

35 . The method of claim 19 , wherein the biological sample is a tumor biopsy sample, a blood sample, a urine sample, or a stool sample.

36 . The method of claim 35 , wherein the biological sample is a blood sample.

37 . The method of claim 35 , wherein the biological sample is a tumor biopsy sample.

38 . The method of claim 35 , wherein the biological sample is a urine sample.

39 . The method of claim 20 , wherein the biological sample is a blood sample.

40 . The method of claim 20 , wherein the biological sample is a tumor biopsy sample.

41 . The method of claim 20 , wherein the biological sample is a urine sample.

42 . A method of diagnosing cancer, the method comprising:
obtaining a biological sample from the subject, and determining the expression level of a gene encoding a polypeptide containing SEQ ID NO: 1 in the biological sample,
wherein the subject is determined to have cancer if the expression level is lower than that in a cancer-free control.

43 . The method of claim 42 , wherein the biological sample is a tumor biopsy sample, a blood sample, a urine sample, or a stool sample.

44 . The method of claim 43 , wherein the biological sample is a blood sample.

45 . The method of claim 43 , wherein the biological sample is a tumor biopsy sample.

46 . The method of claim 43 , wherein the biological sample is a urine sample.
