System and method for control and management of resources for consumers of information

Abstract

A system and method is provided for using information broadcast by devices and resources in the immediate vicinity of a mobile device, or by sensors located within the mobile device itself, to ascertain and make a determination of the immediate environment and state of the mobile device. The sensor data is then used to identify situational profiles to target and determine the relevance of apps, advertisements, content, and recommendations.

         11 . A telecommunications system, comprising:
 a database of smartphone applications;   an environment map for a smartphone based on registry map information and location information, the environment map including a device, application, and network component environment; and   a controller configured to recommend smartphone content based on the environment map to a user of the smartphone.   
     
     
         12 . A telecommunications system in accordance with  claim 11 , the controller further configured to define one or more antecedents which must be satisfied before a recommendation is made. 
     
     
         13 . A telecommunications system in accordance with  claim 11 , wherein the controller is further configured to identify one or more situational profiles from the environment map, the situational profiles defining an inference of a smartphone condition. 
     
     
         14 . A telecommunications system in accordance with  claim 13 , further including an accounting system configured to charge a fee on a per recommendation basis. 
     
     
         15 . A telecommunications system in accordance with  claim 11 , wherein the content comprises smartphone apps. 
     
     
         16 . A telecommunications system in accordance with  claim 13 , wherein the content comprises an advertisement for an advertiser associated with a situational profile. 
     
     
         17 . A telecommunications system in accordance with  claim 13 , wherein the content comprises a coupon for the advertiser associated with the situational profile. 
     
     
         18 . A telecommunications system in accordance with  claim 13 , wherein the controller is configured to define a situational profile including one or more external events. 
     
     
         19 . A method, comprising:
 detecting a use of a credit card at a location;   identifying a location of a mobile device associated with a user of the credit card;   determining if the location of use of the credit card and the location of the mobile device are substantially the same; and   determining whether to validate the use of the credit card based on the location of the credit card and the location of the mobile device.   
     
     
         20 . A method in accordance with  claim 19 , wherein determining to validate includes generating a situational profile associated with the user. 
     
     
         21 . A method in accordance with  claim 19 , further comprising validating a transaction if the use of the credit card and the location of the mobile device are the same. 
     
     
         22 . A method in accordance with  claim 19 , further comprising invalidating a transaction if the use of the credit card and the location of the mobile device are not the same. 
     
     
         23 . A method in accordance with  claim 22 , further comprising sending a message to the mobile device if the use of the credit card and the location of the mobile device are not the same. 
     
     
         24 . A computer program product on a tangible, machine readable medium, the computer program product including instructions for
 detecting a use of a credit card at a location;   identifying a location of a mobile device associated with a user of the credit card;   determining if the location of use of the credit card and the location of the mobile device are substantially the same; and   determining whether to validate the use of the credit card based on the location of the credit card and the location of the mobile device.   
     
     
         25 . A computer program product in accordance with  claim 24 , wherein determining to validate includes generating a situational profile associated with the user 
     
     
         26 . A computer program product in accordance with  claim 24 , further comprising instructions for validating a transaction if the use of the credit card and the location of the mobile device are the same. 
     
     
         27 . A computer program product in accordance with  claim 24 , further comprising instructions for invalidating a transaction if the use of the credit card and the location of the mobile device are not the same. 
     
     
         28 . A computer program product in accordance with  claim 27 , further comprising instructions for sending a message to the mobile device if the use of the credit card and the location of the mobile device are not the same.
