Gas turbine engine having core auxiliary duct passage

Abstract

A method of controlling a gas turbine engine having a core engine including a core passage and an auxiliary duct passage includes sensing an operability condition, and diverting a portion of a core airflow through the auxiliary duct passage in response to sensing the operability condition.

1 . A method of controlling a mixed flow gas turbine engine having a core engine including a core passage and an auxiliary duct passage, comprising the steps of:
 (a) sensing an operability condition; and   (b) diverting a portion of a core airflow from the core passage through the auxiliary duct passage in response to sensing the operability condition.   
     
     
         2 . The method as recited in  claim 1 , wherein the auxiliary duct passage includes an inlet for receiving the portion of the core airflow from the core passage and an outlet for discharging the portion of the core airflow, wherein said step (b) comprises:
 moving a door of each of the inlet and the outlet between a first position and a second position.   
     
     
         3 . The method as recited in  claim 2 , comprising the step of:
 (c) returning the doors of the inlet and the outlet to the first position in response to detection of at least one of a cruise condition and a climb condition.   
     
     
         4 . The method as recited in  claim 3 , wherein the inlet and the outlet are closed in the first position and the inlet and the outlet are open in the second position. 
     
     
         5 . The method as recited in  claim 1 , wherein the operability condition includes a take-off condition.
