Abstract
The disclosure provides a modified arteriotomy closure plug, the modification consisting of subjecting a bioabsorbable foam closure plug to radial compression and/or axial bending until at least some struts of the foam have been torn or elongated within at least one axially disposed region.

exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A plug for arteriotomy closure comprising:
an elongated member comprising a bioabsorbable foam having struts defining cells, said elongated member having a length, a distal end, a proximal end, and a longitudinal axis therebetween, wherein the bioabsorbable foam has been modified by radial compression and axial bending sufficient to create at least one axially disposed region in which struts of the foam have been torn or elongated.
2 . The plug of claim 1 , wherein the bioabsorbable foam is selected from the group consisting of a gelatin foam, a collagen foam, and combinations thereof.
3 . The plug of claim 1 , wherein the torn or elongated struts of the foam have been torn or elongated by elongation.
4 . The plug of claim 3 , wherein the elongation is localized.
5 . The plug of claim 1 , wherein the axially disposed region is symmetric about the longitudinal axis.
6 . The plug of claim 1 , wherein the axially disposed region is asymmetric about the longitudinal axis.
7 . The plug of claim 1 , wherein the axially disposed modified region has a permeability to fluid which is different than the permeability to fluid of an axially disposed region in which struts have not been torn or elongated by radial compression and axial bending.
8 . The plug of claim 1 , wherein the axially disposed modified region has a resistance to bending which is different than the resistance to bending of an axially disposed region in which struts have not been torn or elongated by radial compression and axial bending.
9 . The plug of claim 1 , further comprising a lumen connecting the distal end and the proximal end, wherein the lumen is sized to receive a suture.
10 . The plug of claim 1 , wherein the elongated member further comprises a material at least one of a hydrogel and a hemostatic material.Cited by (0)
