Applicator tip

Abstract

An applicator tip for selectively dispensing a sterile surgical adhesive from a reservoir and a method for dispensing a sterile surgical adhesive includes a reservoir which contains the adhesive material, an applicator tip with a distal end and an opening offset a distance from the distal end whereby the opening opens to dispense adhesive material when pressure is applied to the applicator tip surface and the applicator tip is in a deformed configuration and whereby adhesive material is not dispensed when pressure is not applied to the applicator tip and the applicator tip is in an un-deformed configuration. A kit includes an applicator tip and a reservoir for dispensing a sterile surgical adhesive within a sealable package.

         21 . An applicator tip for selectively dispensing sterile composition contained in a reservoir, the applicator tip having:
 a proximal end;   a distal end;   an external radial flange configured and dimensioned to facilitate attachment to the reservoir;   an opening offset from the distal end, the opening providing a drip free seal in an un-deformed configuration and allowing passage of the sterile composition when deformed;   at least one planar face; and   a stripe forming a center line arc on the at least one planar face.   
     
     
         22 . An applicator tip as in  claim 21 , wherein the opening is a slit. 
     
     
         23 . An applicator tip as in  claim 21 , wherein the distal end of the applicator tip forms an apex. 
     
     
         24 . An applicator tip as in  claim 21 , wherein the opening is positioned no more than 2 mm away from the distal end of the applicator tip. 
     
     
         25 . An applicator tip as in  claim 21 , wherein the applicator tip comprises silicone or rubber. 
     
     
         26 . An applicator tip as in  claim 21 , wherein the applicator tip has a width and the opening has a length that is between about 15% to about 100% of the width of the applicator tip. 
     
     
         27 . An applicator tip as in  claim 21 , wherein the stripe is on one of the at least one planar face on a same side as the opening. 
     
     
         28 . An applicator tip as in  claim 21 , wherein the stripe is on one of the at least one planar face a planar face on an opposite side of the opening. 
     
     
         29 . An applicator tip as in  claim 21 , wherein the stripe is a visual aid. 
     
     
         30 . An applicator tip as in  claim 21 , wherein at least one of a distal most portion of the planar face distal to the opening and a proximal most portion of the planar face proximal to the opening resiliently deforms allowing motion thereof relative to the planar face. 
     
     
         31 . An applicator tip as in  claim 21 , wherein the stripe has a smooth geometry. 
     
     
         32 . An applicator tip as in  claim 31 , wherein the smooth geometry of the stripe allows for restricted flexing of the applicator tip. 
     
     
         33 . A kit comprising a reservoir containing a sterile composition and an applicator tip, the applicator tip having:
 an external radial flange configured and dimensioned to facilitate attachment to the reservoir;   an opening offset from a distal end thereof, the opening providing a drip free seal in an un-deformed configuration and allowing passage of the sterile composition when deformed;   at least one planar face; and   a stripe forming a center line arc on the at least one planar face.   
     
     
         34 . A kit as in  claim 33  wherein the sterile composition is selected from the group consisting of adhesives, sealants, antimicrobial compositions, wound healing compositions, diagnostic compositions and anti-adhesion compositions. 
     
     
         35 . A kit as in  claim 33 , wherein the reservoir is selected from the group consisting of ampules, vials, tubes, and syringes. 
     
     
         36 . A method for dispensing a sterile composition comprising:
 providing an applicator tip affixed to a reservoir containing sterile composition, the applicator tip having:
 an external radial flange configured and dimensioned to facilitate attachment to the reservoir; 
 an opening offset from a distal end thereof, the opening providing a drip free seal in an un-deformed configuration and allowing passage of the sterile composition when deformed; 
 at least one planar face; and 
 a stripe forming a center line arc on the at least one planar face; and 
   deforming the applicator tip to selectively dispense the sterile surgical adhesive.   
     
     
         37 . A method as in  claim 36  wherein the sterile composition is selected from the group consisting of adhesives, sealants, antimicrobial compositions, wound healing compositions, diagnostic compositions and anti-adhesion compositions. 
     
     
         38 . A method as in  claim 36 , wherein the stripe is on one of the at least one planar face on a same side as the opening and is a visual aid. 
     
     
         39 . A method as in  claim 36 , wherein the stripe is on one of the at least one planar face a planar face on an opposite side of the opening and has a smooth geometry allowing for restricted flexing of the applicator tip. 
     
     
         40 . A method as in  claim 36 , wherein the distal end of the applicator tip forms an apex.
