Abstract

A cover for an electronic device is disclosed comprising a plurality of layers including a first layer having opposing first and second sides configured to cover an outer surface of an electronic device. A second layer is removably disposed about a first portion of the first side of the first layer. A tab member is disposed about or created on the cover to facilitate installation of the first layer about the surface of the electronic device.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A cover for an electronic device, the cover comprising:
a first layer comprising a film having opposing first and second sides, the film being configured to cover an outer surface of an electronic device; a second layer removably disposed about a first portion of the first side of the film; a third layer removably disposed about a second portion of the first side of the film, wherein the portion of the film covered by second layer is greater than the portion of the film covered by the third layer; and wherein the third layer comprises a tab member disposed about an edge of the third layer, a center axis of the tab member being substantially collinear with a center axis of the third layer.

2 . The cover of claim 1 , further comprising an adhesive disposed about the first layer between the second and third layers.

3 . The cover of claim 1 , wherein the tab member is substantially collinear with a center longitudinal axis of the third layer.

4 . The cover of claim 1 , wherein the tab member extends across substantially an entire top edge of the third layer.

5 . The cover of claim 1 , wherein the tab member extends across substantially an entire side edge of the third layer.

6 . The cover of claim 1 , wherein a portion of the second layer is disposed beneath a portion of the third layer.

7 . The cover of claim 1 , wherein the second layer extends beyond an outer perimeter of the film.

8 . The cover of claim 1 , further comprising a fourth layer removably disposed about the second surface of the film, wherein the fourth layer comprises a substantially inelastic material.

9 . The cover of claim 1 , wherein the tab member is shaped to approximate the portion of the film covered by the second layer.

10 . The cover of claim 1 , wherein the tab member extends beyond an outer perimeter of the film.

11 . The cover of claim 1 , wherein the tab member is substantially rectangular and a longitudinal axis of the tab member is substantially perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the third layer.

12 . A cover for an electronic device, the cover comprising:
a first layer comprising a flexible film having opposing first and second sides, the film being configured to cover an outer surface of an electronic device; a second layer removably disposed about substantially all of the first side of the film, the second layer comprising a flexible material; and a third layer comprising a substantially rigid or semi-rigid material disposed on a portion of the second layer, wherein said portion covers less than 50 percent of the second layer and wherein a center axis of the third layer is substantially collinear with a center axis of the second layer.

13 . The cover of claim 12 , wherein a top edge of the third layer is substantially parallel with a top edge of the second layer.

14 . The cover of claim 13 , wherein opposing side surfaces of the third layer are substantially parallel with opposing side surfaces of the second layer.

15 . The cover of claim 12 , wherein a bottom edge of the third layer is substantially perpendicular to the center axis of the second layer.

16 . The cover of claim 12 , wherein the third layer is substantially rectangular and wherein a center longitudinal axis of the third layer is substantially perpendicular to the center axis of the second layer.

17 . The cover of claim 12 , wherein the second and third layers are configured to allow a user to concurrently fold the second and third layers at a bottom edge to provide a tab member.

18 . The cover of claim 12 , further comprising a fourth layer removably disposed about a portion of the second surface of the film, wherein the fourth layer comprises a substantially inelastic material.

19 . A cover for an electronic device, the cover comprising:
a first layer comprising a flexible film having opposing first and second sides, the film being configured to cover an outer surface of an electronic device; a second layer removably disposed about substantially all of the first side of the film, the second layer comprising a flexible material; wherein a groove is installed across the second layer substantially perpendicular to a center axis of the second layer; and wherein the groove is configured to permit a user to fold the second layer at the groove to provide a tab member.

20 . The cover of claim 19 , wherein the second layer extends beyond a top edge of the film.

21 . The cover of claim 19 , wherein the groove defines a first portion of the second layer and a second portion of the second layer, wherein opposing side edges of the first portion extend beyond the side edge of the film.

22 . The cover of claim 19 , further comprising a third substantially inelastic layer removably disposed about a second side of the film.

23 . A cover for an electronic device, the cover comprising:
a first layer comprising a flexible film having opposing first and second sides, the film being configured to cover an outer surface of an electronic device; a second layer comprising a flexible material, removably disposed about substantially all of the first side of the film; and a third layer comprising a substantially inelastic material, removably disposed about substantially all of the second side of the film, wherein the third layer is more rigid than the second layer so as to facilitate folding of the second layer to create a tab member.

24 . A method of covering an electronic device, the method comprising:
obtaining a first layer comprising a flexible film having opposing first and second sides, the film being configured to cover an outer surface of an electronic device; obtaining a second layer comprising a flexible material, the second layer being removably disposed about substantially all of the first side of the film; obtaining a third layer comprising an inelastic material, removably disposed about substantially all of the second side of the film, wherein the third layer is more rigid than the second layer; and folding an end portion of the second layer away from the first layer to create a tab member.
