Multi-cavity pressed paperboard for unit packaging
Abstract
One embodiment of the disclosure describes a packaging blank. The packaging blank may include a paperboard card and an array of raised sections. The paperboard card may define a card surface. With respect to the array of raised sections, each raised section may be formed in the paperboard card and remain connected thereto. Each raised section may at least partially define a cavity extending above the card surface. The blister pack may be mounted with the blank and may have at least one unit dose associated therewith. Each unit dose may be positioned relative to a corresponding raised section of a given blank so as to extend into a respective cavity associated with a given raised section.
Claims

a paperboard card with a card surface; the paperboard card comprising an array of raised sections, each raised section being formed from a portion of the paperboard card and remaining connected at least in part to the paperboard card, each raised section at least partially defining a cavity extending above the card surface, at least one of the raised sections including a cut.
2 . (canceled)
3 . The packaging blank of claim 1 , wherein the cut defines a tear initiation opening as part of a child-resistant tear feature in the at least one raised sections.
4 . (canceled)
5 . The packaging blank of claim 3 , wherein the paperboard card has at least one card edge, the paperboard card including at least one child-resistant tear perforation therein, the at least one child-resistant tear perforation extending between the at least one card edge and the at least one of the raised sections.
6 . The packaging blank of claim 1 , wherein the raised sections comprise a first raised section and a second raised section, the first raised section comprising a covering for a product, the second raised section comprising a tear-initiation feature for the paperboard card to facilitate accessing a product in the first raised section.
7 . The packaging blank of claim 1 , wherein the at least one of the raised sections has printed indicia thereon, the printed indicia corresponding to a product contained within the cavity of the at least one of the raised sections.
8 - 9 . (canceled)
10 . The packaging blank of claim 1 , wherein the at least one of the raised sections has a section perimeter, the section perimeter including an attached perimeter portion and a detached perimeter portion, the at least one of the raised sections being integrally connected with the paperboard card by the attached perimeter portion, detached from the paperboard card by the detached perimeter portion.
11 - 14 . (canceled)
15 . The packaging blank of claim 1 , wherein the cut in the at least one raised sections divides the at least one of the raised sections into at least two raised tabs each connected to the paperboard card.
16 . (canceled)
17 . A method of making a packaging blank, the method comprising the steps of:
providing a paperboard card having a card surface; forming at least one cut in a designated area of the paperboard card; and forming the designated are into at least one raised section using a set of male and female mold elements, the at least one raised section at least partially defining a cavity extending above the card surface.
18 . (canceled)
19 . A package, comprising:
at least one blank, including:
a paperboard card with a card surface; and
at least one raised section formed in the paperboard card and remaining integrally connected thereto, the at least one raised section having a cut therein and at least partially defining a cavity extending above the card surface; and
a blister pack combined with the at least one blank, the blister pack having at least one unit dose associated therewith, the at least one unit dose being positioned relative to the at least one raised section of the at least one blank, the at least one unit dose extending into the cavity of the at least one raised section.
20 . The package of claim 19 , wherein the at least one raised section comprises a structural support element and a protective covering for the at least one unit dose.
21 . The package of claim 19 , wherein the at least one raised section comprises a tear initiation opening as part of a child-resistant tear feature for the paperboard card.
22 - 23 . (canceled)
24 . The package of claim 19 , wherein the at least one raised section comprises a first raised section and a second raised section, the first raised section comprising a covering of the at least one unit dose, the second raised section comprising a tear-initiation feature for the paperboard card to facilitate access to a product in the at least one unit dose.
25 - 32 . (canceled)
33 . The package of claim 19 , wherein the at least one raised section has a section perimeter, the section perimeter including an attached perimeter portion and a detached perimeter portion, the at least one raised section being integrally connected to the paperboard card through the attached perimeter portion and being detached from the paperboard card by the detached perimeter portion.
34 . The package of claim 33 , wherein the at least one raised section is provided with a gap defined by the detached perimeter portion, the at least one raise section is pivotally connected to the paperboard card by the attached perimeter portion.
35 . The package of claim 19 , wherein the at least one blank comprises a first blank and a second blank, the first blank being positioned between the blister pack and the second blank, the at least one raised section comprising a first raised section of the first blank that oriented so as to open in a first direction and a second raised section of the second blank that is oriented so as to open in a second direction opposite to the first direction.
36 . The package of claim 35 , wherein the first and second raised sections defines a single cavity, each of the first and second raised sections comprises a lock notch so that the first and second raised sections together form an interlocked form for covering the at least one unit dose.
37 . The package of claim 19 , wherein the blister pack comprises a foil backing and a plastic blister, the plastic blister including at least one unit dose site, the at least one unit dose site comprising a cavity receiving the at least one unit dose therein.
