Abstract

Compositions and methods for conferring herbicide resistance or tolerance to plants, plant cells, tissues and seeds are provided. Compositions include transgenic plants, plant cells, tissues, and seeds that have been transformed with a nucleic acid molecule encoding a cytochrome P450 or variant thereof that confers herbicide resistance or tolerance, alone or in combination with one or more additional nucleic acid molecules encoding polypeptides that confer desirable traits. In particular, the cytochrome P450 or variant thereof confers resistance or tolerance to HPPD inhibitors, benzothiadiazinones, sulfonylureas, and other classes of herbicides. The additional polypeptide may also confer resistance or tolerance to an herbicide, including HPPD inhibitors and other herbicides. Methods are also provided for the production and use of the herbicide resistant or tolerant plants, plant cells, tissues and seeds of the invention.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 - 37 . (canceled)

38 . A method of controlling weeds at a locus, said method comprising applying to said locus a weed-controlling amount of one or more herbicides, wherein said locus comprises a plant comprising a heterologous polynucleotide sequence encoding a cytochrome P450, wherein said cytochrome P450 is selected from the group consisting of:
 a) the nucleotide sequence set forth as nucleotides 123-1664 in SEQ ID NO: 6;   b) a nucleotide sequence encoding a polypeptide comprising the amino acid sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO: 5;
wherein the one or more herbicides is selected from the group consisting of:
 i. Any Auxin
 ii. Any Imidazoline
 iii. Dicamba
 iv. 2,4-D
 v. 2,4-DB
 vi. Picloram
 vii. Aminopyralid

         39 . (canceled)

40 . The method of claim 38 , wherein said nucleic acid construct further comprises a second polynucleotide sequence encoding a polypeptide that confers a desirable trait.

41 . The method of claim 40 , wherein said desirable trait is resistance or tolerance to an herbicide selected from the group consisting of an HPPD inhibitor, glyphosate, and glufosinate.

42 . The method according to claim 38 , wherein the one or more herbicides is Metribuzin.

43 . The method according to claim 38 , wherein the one or more herbicides is Dicamba.

44 . The method according to claim 38 , wherein the one or more herbicides is 2,4-D.

45 . The method of claim 38 , wherein said plant is a rice, barley, potato, sweet potato, canola, sunflower, rye, oats, wheat, corn, soybean, sugar beet, tobacco, Miscanthus grass, Switch grass, safflower, trees, cotton, cassaya, tomato, sorghum, alfalfa, sugar beet, or sugarcane plant.

46 . The method of claim 45 wherein said plant is a soybean plant.
