Following Data Records in an Information Feed

Abstract

Various embodiments described or referenced herein are directed to different devices, methods, systems, and computer program products for following data records in an information feed in an on-demand service environment. The modification of a first parameter value associated with a first parameter may be determined. The parameter may be one of a plurality of parameters associated with a data record. A rule including information indicating the first parameter, a first parameter test value, a first comparison operation, and one or more data records to which the first rule applies may be identified. The first comparison operation may be performed, including comparing the modified first parameter value with the first parameter test value. When the modified first parameter value conforms to the first parameter test value, the modified first parameter value may be provided in a first information feed associated with the first data record for display on a display device.

1 . A method comprising:
 determining, at a computing device, when a first parameter value associated with a first parameter is modified, the first parameter being one of a plurality of parameters associated with a first data record, each parameter having an associated parameter value, the first data record being one of a plurality of data records stored on one or more storage media accessible to the computing device;   identifying a first rule, the first rule including information indicating the first parameter, a first parameter test value, a first comparison operation, and one or more data records to which the first rule applies;   performing the first comparison operation, including comparing the modified first parameter value with the first parameter test value; and   providing, when the modified first parameter value conforms to the first parameter test value, the modified first parameter value in a first information feed associated with the first data record for display on a display device.   
     
     
         2 . The method recited in  claim 1 , the first rule further including information indicating a user profile. 
     
     
         3 . The method recited in  claim 1 , further comprising:
 including, when the modified first parameter value conforms to the first parameter test value, an identification (ID) of a user profile in a list of user profile IDs indicating users to receive updates in the first information feed associated with the first data record.   
     
     
         4 . The method recited in  claim 1 , further comprising:
 transmitting, when the modified first parameter value conforms to the first parameter test value, the modified first parameter value to a plurality of user profiles indicated in the first rule.   
     
     
         5 . The method recited in  claim 1 , wherein the first parameter includes a parameter selected from the group consisting of: a monetary value of the first data record, a stage of the first data record, a close date of the first data record, a status of the first data record, a type of the first data record, a priority of the first data record, an issue associated with the first data record, an age of the first data record, and an owner of the first data record. 
     
     
         6 . The method recited in  claim 1 , the first rule further including information indicating a second parameter, a second parameter test value, and a second comparison operation. 
     
     
         7 . The method recited in  claim 6 , further comprising:
 determining when a second parameter value associated with the second parameter is modified, the second parameter being one of the plurality of parameters associated with the first data record;   performing the second comparison operation, including comparing the modified second parameter value with the second parameter test value; and   providing, when the modified second parameter value conforms to the second parameter test value, the modified second parameter value in the first information feed associated with the first data record.   
     
     
         8 . The method recited in  claim 7 , further comprising:
 transmitting, when the modified second parameter value conforms to the second parameter test value, the modified second parameter value to a plurality of user profiles indicated in the first rule.   
     
     
         9 . The method recited in  claim 1 , further comprising:
 identifying a second rule, the second rule including information indicating the first parameter, a second parameter test value, a second comparison operation, and one or more data records to which the second rule applies;   performing the second comparison operation, including comparing the modified first parameter value with the second parameter test value; and   providing, when the modified first parameter value conforms to the second parameter test value, the modified first parameter value in a second information feed associated with the first data record for display on the display device.   
     
     
         10 . The method recited in  claim 1 , wherein a client machine includes the display device, and wherein the client machine is associated with a first organization. 
     
     
         11 . The method recited in  claim 1 , wherein the one or more storage media include a database, and wherein the database includes the first data record. 
     
     
         12 . The method recited in  claim 11 , wherein the first data record is associated with a parent record. 
     
     
         13 . The method recited in  claim 12 , wherein the database includes the parent record. 
     
     
         14 . One or more computer readable media having instructions stored thereon, the instructions comprising:
 determining, at a computing device, when a first parameter value associated with a first parameter is modified, the first parameter being one of a plurality of parameters associated with a first data record, each parameter having an associated parameter value, the first data record being one of a plurality of data records stored on one or more storage media accessible to the computing device;   identifying a first rule, the first rule including information indicating the first parameter, a first parameter test value, a first comparison operation, and one or more data records to which the first rule applies;   performing the first comparison operation, including comparing the modified first parameter value with the first parameter test value; and   providing, when the modified first parameter value conforms to the first parameter test value, the modified first parameter value in a first information feed associated with the first data record for display on a display device.   
     
     
         15 . The computer readable media recited in  claim 14 , the instructions further comprising:
 including, when the modified first parameter value conforms to the first parameter test value, an identification (ID) of a user profile in a list of user profile IDs indicating user profiles to receive updates in the first information feed associated with the first data record.   
     
     
         16 . The computer readable media recited in  claim 14 , the instructions further comprising:
 transmitting, when the modified first parameter value conforms to the first parameter test value, the modified first parameter value to a plurality of user profiles indicated in the first rule.   
     
     
         17 . The computer readable media recited in  claim 14 , the first rule further including information indicating a second parameter, a second parameter test value, and a second comparison operation. 
     
     
         18 . The computer readable media recited in  claim 17 , the instructions further comprising:
 determining when a second parameter value associated with the second parameter is modified, the second parameter being one of the plurality of parameters associated with the first data record;   performing the second comparison operation, including comparing the modified second parameter value with the second parameter test value; and   providing, when the modified second parameter value conforms to the second parameter test value, the modified second parameter value in the first information feed associated with the first data record.   
     
     
         19 . The computer readable media recited in  claim 14 , the instructions further comprising:
 identifying a second rule, the second rule including information indicating the first parameter, a second parameter test value, a second comparison operation, and one or more data records to which the second rule applies;   performing the second comparison operation, including comparing the modified first parameter value with the second parameter test value; and   providing, when the modified first parameter value conforms to the second parameter test value, the modified first parameter value in a second information feed associated with the first data record for display on the display device.   
     
     
         20 . A system comprising:
 one or more servers configured to provide, to a client machine, information feeds, the one or more servers further configured to:
 determine when a first parameter value associated with a first parameter is modified, the first parameter being one of a plurality of parameters associated with a first data record, each parameter having an associated parameter value, the first data record being one of a plurality of data records stored on one or more storage media accessible to the one or more servers; 
 identify a first rule, the first rule including information indicating the first parameter, a first parameter test value, a first comparison operation, and one or more data records to which the first rule applies; 
 perform the first comparison operation, including comparing the modified first parameter value with the first parameter test value; and 
 provide, when the modified first parameter value conforms to the first parameter test value, the modified first parameter value in a first information feed associated with the first data record; and 
   the client machine, the client machine including a display device, the client machine configured to:
 receive the first information feed; and 
 display the first information feed associated with the first data record to a user interface in a web browser. 
   
     
     
         21 . The system recited in  claim 20 , wherein the one or more servers are further configured to:
 include, when the modified first parameter value conforms to the first parameter test value, an identification (ID) of a user profile in a list of user profile IDs indicating user profiles to receive updates in the first information feed associated with the first data record.   
     
     
         22 . The system recited in  claim 20 , wherein the one or more servers are further configured to:
 transmit, when the modified first parameter value conforms to the first parameter test value, the modified first parameter value to a plurality of user profiles indicated in the first rule.   
     
     
         23 . The system recited in  claim 20 , the first rule further including information indicating a second parameter, a second parameter test value, and a second comparison operation. 
     
     
         24 . The system recited in  claim 23 , wherein the one or more servers are further configured to:
 determine when a second parameter value associated with the second parameter is modified, the second parameter being one of the plurality of parameters associated with the first data record;   perform the second comparison operation, including comparing the modified second parameter value with the second parameter test value; and   provide, when the modified second parameter value conforms to the second parameter test value, the modified second parameter value in the first information feed associated with the first data record.   
     
     
         25 . The system recited in  claim 20 , wherein the one or more servers are further configured to:
 identify a second rule, the second rule including information indicating the first parameter, a second parameter test value, a second comparison operation, and one or more data records to which the second rule applies;   perform the second comparison operation, including comparing the modified first parameter value with the second parameter test value; and   provide, when the modified first parameter value conforms to the second parameter test value, the modified first parameter value in a second information feed associated with the first data record.
