Abstract

Methods and encoders/decoders for applying in-loop deblocking to intra-coded images/frames. In a decoding context, a deblocking filter is applied to reconstructed pixels of an intra-coded block prior to decoding the subsequent block in the decoding sequence. In an encoding context, a deblocking filter is applied to reconstructed pixels of an intra-coded block in an inter-coding loop before encoding a subsequent block in the coding order for the image.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A method for generating a block of predictions for reconstructing a current intra-coded block of video data, the method comprising:
obtaining filtered pixel data by applying filtering to reconstructed pixel data neighbouring the current block; and generating the block of predictions based upon the filtered pixel data.

2 . The method claimed in claim 1 , wherein the reconstructed pixel data comprises pixel data from at least one previously reconstructed block.

3 . The method claimed in claim 1 , wherein the reconstructed pixel data comprises pixel data to the left of the current block.

4 . The method claimed in claim 1 , wherein the reconstructed pixel data comprises pixel data above the current block.

5 . The method claimed in claim 1 , wherein the current block and the block of predictions each comprise a 4×4 block.

6 . The method claimed in claim 1 , wherein the current block is from an intra-coded frame of a video.

7 . The method claimed in claim 1 , further comprising identifying a prediction mode.

8 . The method claimed in claim 1 , wherein generating the block of predictions is further based upon a prediction mode.

9 . The method claimed in claim 1 , wherein the predictions and the reconstructed pixel data are luminance data.

10 . The method claimed in claim 1 , wherein the predictions and the reconstructed pixel data are chrominance data.

11 . A decoder for generating a block of predictions for reconstructing a current intra-coded block of video data, the decoder comprising:
a processor configured to: obtain filtered pixel data by applying filtering to reconstructed pixel data neighbouring the current block; and generate the block of predictions based upon the filtered pixel data.

12 . The decoder claimed in claim 11 , wherein the reconstructed pixel data comprises pixel data from at least one previously reconstructed block.

13 . The decoder claimed in claim 11 , wherein the reconstructed pixel data comprises pixel data to the left of the current block.

14 . The decoder claimed in claim 11 , wherein the reconstructed pixel data comprises pixel data above the current block.

15 . The decoder claimed in claim 11 , wherein the current block and the block of predictions each comprise a 4×4 block.

16 . The decoder claimed in claim 11 , wherein the current block is from an intra-coded frame of a video.

17 . The decoder claimed in claim 11 , wherein the processor is further configured to identify a prediction mode.

18 . The decoder claimed in claim 11 , wherein the processor is configured to generate the block of predictions further based upon a prediction mode.

19 . The decoder claimed in claim 11 , wherein the predictions and the reconstructed pixel data are luminance data.

20 . The decoder claimed in claim 11 , wherein the predictions and the reconstructed pixel data are chrominance data.

21 . A non-transitory processor-readable medium storing processor-executable instructions which, when executed, configure one or more processors to perform the method claimed in claim 1 .
